Sidney, I got that and you are still late to the party. ;) I know what it looks like... Because it's already been done.

FWIW, i like my gauge lights dim. have you ever flown a plane at night?
Yes. ;) I like mine dim as well.

Geronimo '74 08-15-2011 08:36 PM

Isn't Gauge a pornstar chick?
Who would want to dim her??

And on that bombshell: goodmorning boys!
:D

Sidney, there are a couple of write-ups on fixing the reflector and LEDs on the Rennlist 944 Turbo board.

The bad part about most LED replacements is that they do not dim very much with stock dimmer. 928 guys have attempted several different LED dimming setups. I haven't seen anything I like.

Porsche-poor 08-15-2011 08:41 PM

evening guys.

slodave 08-15-2011 08:48 PM

'Ello...

Here's a pic with a 911 LED setup. Seriously too bright.

The dimmer on my 911 is so touchy its not cool. they are either on or off really.

porsche4life 08-15-2011 09:41 PM

If I do this, it won't be half assed. ;) I'm not into blindingly bright, so they will be dimmed. Have faith guys, have faith...

As far as reconditioning the reflectors? I did that a while back, its and improvement, but not much.

slodave 08-15-2011 09:47 PM

Just understand that there are a couple professional companies that specialize in Porsche, already doing this.. And then there are the kits for DIY.

Good luck. :)

porsche4life 08-15-2011 09:49 PM

I'm aware, and if I sell anything, it will just be a sub $50 DIY kit....

Right..... Maybe a trade would be in order........

I need to play with it a little more and make sure the factory dimmer will knock it down enough. If not, I will have to hid another one somewhere else.

slodave 08-15-2011 10:54 PM

You can always change out the dimmer switch, it's just a potentiometer or variable resistance... One can also add a resistor of appropriate value that will affect the dimmer as well. And before you ask, I have no idea what the correct value would be. I'd have to do some tests.

RKDinOKC 08-15-2011 11:55 PM

If you go adding resistors, be mindful of the heat it will create and the location of that heat.

I didn't get a call from the speaker repair guy today. That means they didn't have to order anything and I should have them back Wednesday or Thursday. I miss them.

I may take the blown speakers out of the 928 and see if they can be rebuilt too.

Scenic route I ran yesterday.
