Interesting. I would think the greater air density would be better? I find that seems to be the case with me. Cold air seems cleaner too but that might be all in my mind.

porsche4life 12-05-2011 10:04 PM

I've always had hell running or anything in the cold. Never thought much of it until the other day a friend of mine mentioned she was having to go back on her asthma medicine, b/c the cold was causing issues. Thus starting my research.

Flieger 12-05-2011 10:07 PM

How cold is cold? Below freezing cold or just chilly?

porsche4life 12-05-2011 10:08 PM

50 and below....

Flieger 12-05-2011 10:10 PM

OK, my experience is limited to about 40 degrees. Below that I am usually indoors since it would be a cold night here. Sometimes in the shade in the early morning it can be about freezing but I do not hang around there for extended periods.

Maybe just the shock of the cold causing your lungs to want to shrivel up to protect themselves.

nynor 12-05-2011 10:11 PM

yeah, there is such a thing as cold induced asthma and exercise induced asthma. you could probably talk to your doctor about it. a PRN dose of albuterol, right before exercising, would probably be all that you need. also, you could try a LONGER, much LONGER, warmup period.

cold air is not necessarily cleaner. part of the problem, re the above, is that colder air is dryer, along with being irritating to your airways. your lungs require air that is body temperature and 100% humidified, which is the job of your upper airway (nose and mouth) all the way to the carina (where your trachea branches into the two mainstems/lungs).

nynor 12-05-2011 10:12 PM

what are the symptoms you experience when exercising in the cold?

Flieger 12-05-2011 10:13 PM

Well, Markus should have lots of experience with cold and medical stuff.

You should go see him. Maybe he will assign some nurses to look after you.

Trouble breathing, coughing, tight chest, dry mouth. It will finally reach the point that I am out of breath and will stop.

slodave 12-05-2011 10:20 PM

Stop what? Breathing, exercising?

yeah, that sounds like cold/exercise induced asthma. then, i bet you recover over about 1/2 an hour, maybe longer.

except that 'dry mouth' part.... ;)

all of the above are signs and symptoms of your airway becoming reactive.

slodave 12-05-2011 10:24 PM

It's the pot.

porsche4life 12-05-2011 10:26 PM

I'm not you dave.....

I'll have a talk with my doctor. Would be nice to be able to go for a bike ride and not have to stop b/c I can't breath...

I leave you with an interesting music vid. Of a band most of you will hate... ;)

okay, i have to go to bed. i stay up way too late on my days off. then when the work week starts again, i am thrashed.

sid, you really ought to talk to a physician about what you are describing.

porsche4life 12-05-2011 10:31 PM

Thats my plan D...

Night...

I'm out too, I've had my heating blanket on for a bit now, nothing like crawling into a warm bed.

slodave 12-05-2011 10:32 PM

Night, D.

Morning, Markus. Got another uploading. :)

livi 12-05-2011 10:35 PM

Morning!

Dave, I uploaded seven clips yesterday. Did you miss them? I am exhausted. :D

Nynor is right, Sidney. Sounds like typical symptoms of asthma.

svandamme 12-05-2011 10:37 PM

hmm, long weekend over, back to the grind
And tomorrow i gotta see a lawyer about my dad going missing to see about flipping the bird to the bank/repo on the grounds that he's missing possibly dead. I don't like lawyers, but in this case unavoidable.

livi 12-05-2011 10:43 PM

What an ordeal, Stijn. On so many levels. Hope it goes well.

porsche4life 12-05-2011 10:46 PM

Can you shoot me a PRN scrip for proair doc?
