If I can be honest, I prefer the model you have now.

Something about the front lights and kidney grille that i don't like. (I think I saw the same uglyness on the 7 series already. Same thing, not an improvement over the previous model)
Probably fun to drive, but not to look at.
Get nicers rims if you have a choice.

How come the lower portion of the pic is missing?

Geronimo '74 12-06-2011 04:48 AM

See?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1323175666.jpg

If I had that kind of cash to spend on a car, the front end of this one would be a dealbreaker.
Too ugly.

ymmv, naturally

svandamme 12-06-2011 04:50 AM

i fully agree, but it's the cheapest RWD car i can find, and it's fun to drive.
i'de rather drive a fun RWD car that looks a bit weird , then a FWD boring car that looks hot.

In black, it's not to bad anyway...
in other colors it would drive me nuts, but black hides the freaky lines..

there was no lower portion of the pic

Geronimo '74 12-06-2011 04:52 AM

And after a while, you'll be used to it and it won't be so bad anymore.
Who knows, you may even start to like it.

Porbably not too many RWD around in that price range. I would consider a 3 series as well, but you'll have to give in optionwise.
Mercedes is probably more money.

(I'm pretty sure there are some decent FWD cars around too.

svandamme 12-06-2011 04:53 AM

what are my alternatives in that price range?
A Volvo? booooooooooooooooring
Alfa? FWD bad shifters
Merc B ? bweh
Ford Focus?
VW? ok , but FWD again
Audi? A3 Quattro?? FWD or Quattro, Quattro is out of budget..& slower
a french car???

svandamme 12-06-2011 04:53 AM

3 is out of budget and to big and heavy.

svandamme 12-06-2011 04:55 AM

my main grief, is that the 3 doors is not out yet, so i'll have to take a 5 door
but it's less of an issue on the new 1 series, and with black..
my main issue is that i'm loosing the big front door window, and now will have the B pillar to look at when i look over my shoulder in traffic.

Geronimo '74 12-06-2011 04:55 AM

See there are a lot of cars to pick, your personal preference is your limiting factor.

(which is completely understandable)

True, with no rear doors, front doors are bigger to allow decent acces to the back.
Bigger door means bigger window.
I have a three door too, sometimes I wish the door wasn't so friggin big so I can get out when I'm parked side to side.

Geronimo '74 12-06-2011 05:01 AM

I kinda dig the A3 too.

(this is the quattro...)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1323176460.jpg

looks like every other audi has looked like for the last 10 year... can't say they change much...
