Thinking about things like the existance/substance of consciousness (which can be considered in the same regard as a soul) makes me slow down and not get things done. Just like "what happened before the big bang?"

My view is that thsoe things do not affect my life now, so why worry about them. There will always be another question whenever one of those deep questions finds a partial answer. Even things like string theory. Who cares if it is how things actually are if the results/equations work out and we can't prove the stuff beyond that?

I feel that for those big questions it is just easier to say "An eternal God created the universe at this point and this is how it has evolved over time." Much simpler than spending one's life searching for a scientific answer that might never come and which is not of any practical use.

That is why I like engineering. Applying math and science to the real world.

Oh, and I like freewill, too. :)

Be nice to go for a run along the Great Ocean Rd in the Porsche, but the 944 will be staying in Alice. Actually it's still up on car stands in pieces and I'm trying to get time to get it back together before we come down. It looks like I'm fighting a loosing battle. I've hired an SV6 for the 12 days I'm down.

I haven't been your way for a very long time (used to live in Sale 20 somthing years ago, and spent a bit of time down the Prom and the Island), perhaps I can talk the war office into catching the ferry across for a coffee?

Its the basic need to understand how things come about.
Without understanding the thing looking, we cant move on.
It becomes a war of opinion, rather than fact.
And that is the problem we now have.
This is why we have conflict on both a personal and global scale.
If you want to have an eternal god ,thats fine.
However, that wont help us out of our mess.
Man has tried that since the birth of thought, it has created a great deal of conflict.
And no answers to mans suffering.

I do not believe that even if everyone on the planet knew how the universe came into being that it would stop wars. Although, many wars start because people are arguing over gods.

Max, how the universe came about is a small portion of it.
Looking into why we act as we do, is the important stuff.
No point in arguing over gods without understanding the origin of belief itself.
Thats why its important.
