Yep, Ebrake on left. As I drive with BOTH hands on the wheel unless shifting, operating the ebrake with the left hand, aint no thang. Plenty of time between downshift, ebrake, upshift. The only problem I am having is the transition from ebrake to letting the clutch back out into throttle steering (oversteer drifting) the corner. Just couldn't ever get my right foot to give it enough throttle to keep the rear end sliding when I popped the clutch back out. The first few times I tried it, I killed the engine when letting the clutch out.

Do you engine brake while you do this?
So you downshift 4-3-2(but you don't let the clutch out) Ebrake, steer- in While your still swinging the back end, pop the clutch , mash the throttle to make em spin? ? I think your fat rear tires will work against you on a clean surface, Ebrake turns don't really work well if the rears are really wide and there isn't any gravel or something to skid over.. I'm not convinced it's something you'll win time with, vs other methods. |
Thought I did pretty good considering it was the first time I tried using the ebrake to help start rotation into a tight turn.

I use clutch and heel toe threshold braking when downshifting. So a engine braking a little. I have even gotten pretty good at pumping the clutch and mismatching rpm to unsettle the rear end on turn-in if going too slow for it to start rotation by itself or to unsettle the car to tank slap through a chicane. However, the accepted method is to use the ebrake to help initiate rotation on corners tighter than the steering of the car. A single cone 180 is about as tight a hairpin as it's gonna get! And the 928 has PLENTY of wheel spinning torque to keep it going,. |
No, that one run was 2 seconds slower than the previously posted run where I didn't come to a full stop. Not 2 seconds slower ebrake versus no ebrake.

in my 944s i'de unsettle the back with engine braking, worked for most situations.
But obviously it won't work when there is to much grip going on.. So damp to snow, or a bit of gravel yes Dry, clean tarmac, no way Obviously the 944S was pretty gutless in low revs, making it even less forgiving in that kind of trick. With Bimforce 1 my handbrake is so weak, i can't even lock up in the wet.. So engine braking is the only thing that really works . 300 nm torque helps to spin them rears while i power out. |
I can't bring myself to abuse my e-brake like that. The 911's e-brake shoes are expensive and from what I hear a real pain to replace. I hate those courses that really need a shift into 1st gear to be fast. I will not abuse my 1st gear syncro either. Some of the disadvantages of driving a 27 year old car.

I got curious so I checked the price for 911 e-brake shoes. They are $40.50 each 4 required so 162 just for the shoes. There are 4 springs at 10 bucks each and some other parts that are "while you are in there" plus shipping of course. It is a real pain to do from what I read.
No thanks, I will leave the e-brake alone and continue to use it as a parking brake only. |
a pain, maybe if the springs and stuff are rusted, but else it's just slightly figitty.. it's not to bad , just takes some time to figgit around with it.

my wife is a saint: she has been putting up with my broken self for over a week. just now she is making me coffee and brought my clothes to me, as i really don't want to go up the stairs until the pain meds have kicked in.
