It's good enough for me, Dave. Thanks for posting. :)

Looks great. I bet the full sized image is stunning.

Thanks. I bet it's the 2x extender. It's the latest version from Nikon, but I think it's still pushing it at 400mm (1200mm by the time you add the 1.5 sensor).

Maybe I should try the Jim Morrison approach? :D

From the list of foods above looks like I win the healthy eater award.
Dinner was salmon (wife) and rock cod for me on the grill, green beans and 1/2 a baked potato. I need to get out more.......... |

The Russians beat us to that milestone of the first images of the far side of the moon. But their images were not that good.

good luck. I'll look in the am. I am about to give in to the eye lids and cave to the pillow.
Night all. |
Good night David.

Crap, can't use mirror lock and timer at the same time.

What does your camera mount setup look like? Needs more rigidity or else more damping.

The ball head I have on my tripod can hold the combined weight of the 200-400mm lens and huge D2x body, but it's right at max. Total weight is 9.75 lbs. I did not feel like grabbing my dad's tripod. His ball head is big, but heavy. You really want to use a cable release, which I forgot to grab. The cable release is $50 and I don't use it that often, so I borrow it from my dad when needed. When you press the shutter button, it causes the whole thing to vibrate. I set it for a 20 second delay, but the mirror causes the rig to vibrate. Had I had the cable, I could lock the mirror up, wait 20 secs and then fire the shutter. Oh well.

Trying to figure out how to crop it so it doesn't appear like a meteorite.
