ok , we need a cbc, , tox screen, and a chem 7!

no idea what those are, but i've seen it on ER plenty times

Oh yeah, and a differential diagnose, so we can narrow it down to 2 things that require different meds that will each be contraproductive if it happens to be the other thing... eg, if it's the wrong thing, it will kill the patient...

saw that on House MD.

Then get Nurse Espinosa to strong arm the Janitor into getting him to take on Kelso, so Noobie is off the hook for banging Blondy on dr Cox's desk, while dr Turk was busy going to town on a burst appendix in OR 4

That's from scrubs.

When can i start Markus?

slodave 08-25-2009 03:24 PM

I still want to know what STAT means.

svandamme 08-25-2009 03:26 PM

from latin, statim, right now.

Wow! I've asked a number of doctors and no one has had an answer.

Thanks!

svandamme 08-25-2009 03:43 PM

probably docs that never did latin in high school

you don't need to learn latin to become an MD, but it's supposed to be a good foundation to learn latin in high school, since it
A teaches you to learn and
B have better knowledge of the terminology of medical and biological things, since most is latin based....

Mum forced me to go do latin in 1st high school year... i was not even remotely interested.. Nor did i study, was a handsfull, it was first year of school after they divorced.. messy divorce.. and i was sent to boarding school, another thing that really made me happy...

for the entire year, my score was something like 2%..(spent the exam weeks in detention and what not... i was a defiant rebel in that school... think the great escape, going awol on several occasions)... but some words stuck, one of those was Statim.. since the latin teacher would use that whenever she had called me out to do something, or stop doing it...

"Put that comic book away, statim " and other stuff like that :D

Mum had a plan B.. rich aunt had her son in some fancy boarding school, famous in belgium since one or more of the royals went there..Told mum to try and get me in there, she'de introduce her..

Mum knew i would never willingly go to such a stuffy place, so told me it was great there, can ride horses and what not ( i was seriously nuts about horses).

So i went, hell yeah, let's go...
unfortunately, the dean/abbot did an intake meeting, to determine if the candidate is proper material for his school...

Q " what would be your reason for wanting to come to Zevenkerken?"
A: well i heard this place is big on sports, like horseback riding , tennis and what not.

Abbot goes, well, it's true, we do sports here, but mostly soccer and volleyball, no horses i'm afraid...
Me : Well, sounds boring to me, i don't see the point in me coming here then

Crash & burn for mum's plan B... I guess that's what you can expect if one lies to ones kids

Rick V 08-25-2009 04:03 PM

I guess that's what you can expect if one lies to ones kids
Ya mean like
Santa
Easter Bunny
Tooth Fairy

svandamme 08-25-2009 04:14 PM

no Rick, more like growing up thinking you have a dad, and when the divorce happens, at age 13 receiving the happy news : btw, he's not your real dad...

Or sending me to a child psychologist... and then bedding that psychologist...
Very good for my trust in his profession btw..

No wonder i was impossible to manage, how could anybody have expected me to comply with anything, there was nothing i feared , nobody had any leverage on me...
threats with punishment, detention , expelling me from school, meant nothing to me...

How can you threaten a kid that he'll be kicked out of school, when the kid doesn't want to be in school in the first place..
in retrospect, that's the biggest joke of all... That nobody could figure out such a basic contradiction...everybody felt they were so smart when dealing with me...
Educated folks , teachers, psychologists... Only thing they could come up with was "you have to go to school, it's the law"... pretty lame point to make to a kid who doesn't care...
Only other point was "you gotta study now in high school if you want to get into university"

Study now? so i can study more when i get 18 ?? Why would i wanna study then, if i don't even wanna study now? duh!?

It's like telling a kid, he will skip dinner if he doesn't behave, when the stink of brussels sprouts and liver is coming out of the kitchen....

livi 08-25-2009 04:20 PM

You are obviously fully qualified, Stijn. You can start on Monday. I will assign a group of nurses working for you. Any particular preferences?

Rick V 08-25-2009 04:21 PM

ummmmmm Okay Got ya.
I was just physically abused by a woman that had no biz with kids after the divorce. Guess I got off lucky

svandamme 08-25-2009 04:26 PM

not much physical stuff at home, just constant drama...
she did threaten to throw stuff at me occasionally, but then i taunted here "you can't aim anyway" At which she threw, missed, and then i ran off before the rest came in flying...
Did get a few coke bottles wacked against my coconut... They are hard and make a weird sound...

Wish i could get my 9 year old sister away from her, to live with her dad...At least she has one.. And he's a good dad too.. bit like and older brother to me...
Dude put up with mum's crap way to long as well... It's weird, while you're in range of her influence, you can't see the real picture...Her new husband (3rd one) still thinks that the world is picking on her, that she's the victim of everything and everybody... He'll snap out of it eventually.... sooner or later...

Livi, nurses, excellent.
Send me some resume's with picture portfolio's.

Rick V 08-25-2009 04:31 PM

Red Headed nurses, send them this way please

GH85Carrera 08-25-2009 08:05 PM

Stijn, when I hear stories like yours I am reminded what a lucky kid I was. I grew up in the "Leave it to Beaver" era. My dad was an Air Force pilot so he was gone a lot but it was for work. My mom was always home. They were married for 54 years before my mom died. Dad is 79 and still going strong.

I never realized how lucky I was until I reached adulthood. I am happy that I told my parents many times that I grew up in a normal happy home. I did not have a Hollywood childhood, there were tough times but nothing like what you went thru.

Geronimo '74 08-25-2009 09:34 PM

Geronimo's already up and awake!

slodave 08-25-2009 09:37 PM

I'm just having dinner. Enjoy breakfast.

Geronimo '74 08-25-2009 09:46 PM

Stijn, after reading about your childhood struggles, I'm not sure anymore that we should meet up...:D
Please inform me about your mental recovery from this ordeal...:D
I can deal with a certain amount of freakiness, but you kinda scared me there, buddy...:D

I, on the other hand, am completely normal... (Err, wait, maybe this should be in green as well...)
