I'll put a shrimp on the barbie

slodave 06-10-2012 03:06 AM

Just one??

Rick V 06-10-2012 03:08 AM

I'll have to wait till Beth lets me come alone. She had a childhood friend become a crock dinner down there (as was told to me) and she won't go there. :(

That's just real bad luck. I've been waste deep in croc water (didn't know until the following day), but let her know that we're to far south and to far inland for crocs. Now snakes and spiders, that's an entirely different story.

Assuming that all sides are square, a simple way to cut the top, is with the table saw. The table saw blade has a kerf of 1/8". Not bad, but enough that you can notice when lining up grain. The bandsaw has a kerf of 1/16", but the blade likes to wander. So... How to get a nice even cut? :)

I have no doubt you will have it done the correct way.

I have vague memories of doing this in high school. Pretty sure you use a table saw, but don't cut the lot in one pass. Raise the blade so that you just cut each edge using the saw guide to set the depth from the top edge. That way you minimise the effect of the blade kerf.

Outback Porsche 06-10-2012 03:42 AM

Oh, another tIp, the depth of the blade cut should be no more than 10mm greater than the thickness of the material

slodave 06-10-2012 03:50 AM

Kerf = width of blade. Yes, a table saw will work, but with the twice the material loss. I'll be using the bandsaw.

Outback Porsche 06-10-2012 03:54 AM

Haha, I miss read that as curvature. How you gunna control the wander? I guess you just go slowly, yes?
