that's why you add a thick plate to the back of the p201 knockoff.., it will fit neatly over the round mating edge where the engine fit's in the bell housing of the tranny... on that thick plate, you can drill the hole wherever you need it to be...

Morning Rick.

What a silly idea to put the hand brake near the door. :p

Rick V 01-15-2010 01:29 AM

I agree, but it does make it easy to use it and still shift gears.

actually it's the opposite... with a handbrake near the stick shift, in the snow... you have left hand at the wheel, at all times, and you shift with the right... and occasionally yank the brake with the right hand ...

left hand handbrake, it's impossible to switch your hands fast... right hand off shifter, on steering wheel, left hand off steering wheel, on hand brake, and then the other way around... believe me , it's no good.

Back when I had my 914 I stopped at a bank that only had valet parking. I was leery of letting the valet park my car but I had no choice. I asked him if he could drive it and he said he could drive anything.

When I stopped I pulled up the handbrake which, as you know is on the left side. He promptly stuck it in 2nd and killed the car. He tried 3rd and then 2nd again. I explained it would help if he used 1st gear. He looked pissed and asked where 1st was. I reached in and put it in first for him. It died again because the handbrake was on. So I explained it would help if he disengaged the handbrake. He looked all over the center console and then under the dash for a handle. He finally threw up his hands so I reached and released the handbrake. He parked it in the very fist spot just a few feet away. When I came back he just handed me the keys. He knew he would never find reverse.

I wonder how many cars have the handbrake in that location?
