Not really, but if they charge too much, which happens ( they can try), I provide the data, plans, numbers to show them that they're wrong, and that were not paying extra.
I work for a group of contractors and I check the subcontractos so they don(t charge too much.

here's a link with more info:

The job includes two tunnels (2 x 1000m), 8.5 meters in diameter, a lot of roadworks and the expansion of an underground railwaystation (from 2 tracks to 4)

The TBM:

Interesting job, really, but I'd rather be wrenching... :D

Cool. Doesn't the paint wear off rather quickly?

svandamme 08-27-2009 01:39 AM

just one day with that TBM , under your house, and you'de have a pretty decent garage/workshop for your 911.

No, No you wouldn't trust me. My dad was a wrench, he got smart and got out of the industry. My grandfather was a wrench his entire life. I grew up wrenching, and after trying a few different things I went with the only thing I really know, wrenching. You don't want to do this for anything more than simply a hobby.

I guess, once it is in the tunnel, you don't see it anymore... (that color can wear off in a second for all I care... Purple??? Really??)

Bet he browsed through all pages with a bloc note and a pencil,
putting a 1 next to the name of each poster... then he added them up and calculated the percentage with an error margin of about 4 %

Or rather, he had one of his nurses do it for him

:D

Couldn't you save some $ by not having the thing painted? ;)

Rick V 08-27-2009 01:50 AM

I would love to do the Iphone but I detest AT&T and I don't want to jail break one.

Contract between Apple and ATT is up soon. Hang in there.

Geronimo '74 08-27-2009 01:52 AM

Paint is for PR reasons of course. And only the purple part wears off, the white train that follows, does not scrape the tunnelwalls

Actually, my mother found a place, I'm checking it out tonight to see if it's ok or not.
I'm still coming your way though, so I can see your workshop too, and drink your beer...:D

Rick V 08-27-2009 01:58 AM

Okay fellas I gotta get going. Someone wake up Markus and slap him around for his drive by posting habits.
More from work.

slodave 08-27-2009 02:00 AM

good news, it is best to have a place as close to as possible.
But do make sure you have enough room to work, a stable floor surface for jacking up the car, jack stands, and rolling things around.
A solid workbench that ain't to pretty to work on is nice to have as well, for the engine parts cleanup...Bonus points if there's a car lift on site... engine drops are so much easier if there is one.
Has to be a 2 post bridge, not a 4 post drive on bridge, as the latter will be terrible to work with, engines are wide, and they have to come down, where the bridge would get in the way if it's a drive on type

not sure if the name is right, i mean --|-- is good, -|--|- would be bad

slodave 08-27-2009 02:14 AM

Step away from the coffee, Stijn.

Rick V 08-27-2009 03:44 AM

Let me help ya out
You need a 2 post lift, not a 4 post flat rack. here is a 4 post
