Dang good ice cream if I do say so myself. The 6 neighbors all liked it. The brownies and chocolate chip cookies and M&M cookies and the fresh fruit was all great. Burp.

Now I need to try and stay awake and watch the F1 qualifying.

You are killing me with all this ice cream talk. Ice cream, sushi, steak, and lobster are my favorite foods.

Why do you need the trees gone?

They are palm trees, and while the look nice they are not native to central Oz and they drink too much water. They are being replaced with natives that don't drink so much.

And they make a mess.

Afternoon/Evening all

I have 3&E's most of the time with a few W's thrown in for good measure

I guess they bought the high dollar version not the cheap knockoffs. ;)

I should be doing some of that to the fig "tree" stump that seems to resist death.

Drill several holes in it with a .5" auger
Fill with diesel and let sit....once the diesel has been absorbed fill again
Do that 5 or 6 times then chuck a match on it and crack a beer

or go to home depot, buy a $5 bag of stump-b-gone, or whatever it is and dump it on there (a .5" auger wouldn't hurt). it'll kill it FAST. plus, the potassium nitrate will accelerate the breakdown of the stump.

this:

Spectracide 1 lb. Stump Remover-HG-66420-4 at The Home Depot

Thanks for the advice, guys!

Funny, we say similar things about those durn gum trees we got here. :D The palms are LA's trademark, though, so I don't think they will be going anytime soon. At least from the beach.

my father had this huge cottonwood tree that he cut down in his yard. i am not sure why he planted it in the first place, as they are crap trees and prone to getting blown down. anyway, the thing had surface roots all over the yard that kept putting up shoots. he finally got tired of it, cut a big bowl shape into the stump with a chain saw and then put a couple or three pounds of that spectracide stuff into the depression. the roots were dead, and no more shoots, within a matter of DAYS. the bonus was that the trump seemed to decompose at a very accelerated rate.

plus, you can use any that is left over to make proper black powder!

we've been getting these late night thunder storms. i love it. it cools things off and it is a bit more humid, which i like. we are currently having a minor thunder storm.

Jim Richards 07-06-2013 04:58 PM

Sound nice. We've been overcast here near the coast. Temps staying moderate. Hope it stays that way when I resume painting the exterior of the house.

Home made eggs benedict :)

nynor 07-06-2013 05:23 PM

mmm... homemade eggs benedict.... delishus.

Very.

Found a real quick recipe for hollandaise sauce. Throw all the ingredients into a double boiler and stir like crazy. Hollandaise in 5 mins.

Time to go play with the chain saw again.

that's how i do it. turns out perfect every time. my wife claims (and maybe she is just being nice) that my hollandaise sauce is the best.

oh, and that minor thunderstorm turned into a pretty good rain.

Got a big cotton wood in my yard, it's not the one that makes the fuzz. It does shed limbs and leaves all the time. No roots or root shoots. Dog dug up a toad at the base of the trunk. About a foot and a half deep 8 inches wide and a foot long. Within a few hours the hole filled with water. Stayed full of water all summer, even during very dry late summer. Found it's some kind of capillary effect. The cotton wood gets it's water from very deep and survivalist say to look for cotton woods and dig a hole at the base to find water.

The tree I dislike the most in my yard is a sweet gum. It puts off thousands of inch diameter spiney balls. Can't go bare foot in my yard without considerable pain, and that was well before the roofing nail threat.
