There is, but the sharks have it all. :)

Not a large shark problem here.
Surfing sucks too.

Got offered a job today. Art Director for a .org. 10K salary increase, with full medical and matched 401K and a company credit card expense account.

The .org goal is to partner technology companies with companies in Africa thru setting up and managing Makers spaces. Makers spaces are like technology clubs where members have access to manufacturing tools and equipment including CNC mills/lathes, 3D prototype printers, and CADD/CAM software and equipment. They offer classes on and require certifications to operate the equipment. Even though there is a monthly membership to use the space, it only $50. The space is funded by donations from equipment and software manufacturers and local businesses.

I'm a little concerned the .org is just starting up and I just don't know if it will come together or last very long. I have worked for the company I am at now 32 years and would hate to find myself unemployed after a few months even though there is supposed to be a contract with a severance package. And lastly it would require moving to Austin TX. Oh and they said they would help with Mom by providing a live-in caregiver.

What we called surfing here is you stay in your car at the car wash, put the radio on the Beach Boys, and roll the windows down when you get to the air dryers while screaming the lyrics at the top of your lungs.

Oh boy, the kitten and dog are chasing each other around the house.

porsche4life 08-06-2013 07:13 PM

Went and smacked some golf balls around the back yard... Mostly hitting practice balls, but boy, there are few sounds as satisfying as good contact with a driver on a golf ball! I'd go to the driving range, but the local has 0 farking shade, so I much prefer staying at home.

Very neat birds, we have them around here. I've never seen them get aggressive like that, must have been near their nest.

GH85Carrera 08-06-2013 08:18 PM

Those kites nest here in Oklahoma. There was a pair nesting near a neighborhood just up the road from our house. It had the neighborhood folks terrified. The birds are federally protected so there is nothing anyone can do.

Yeah it was very good. I like their music and have been listening to it off and on since they released the CD last year. It's folky rock, I call it happy music because that's the way it makes me feel. The tunes are catchy and stay in your head for a while.

We both enjoyed the concert and got right into it and only sat down a couple of times. The sound was rich and clear (although we were inside a theater and not far from the mixing desk). They played for about an hour and a quarter and looked like they were enjoying themselves and they encouraged participation. They looked visibly happy (maybe because it was their last show in Oz ;) ) with their performance. They played most of the CD and threw in one song that never made it to the CD. Never heard it before, can't remember the title but it was a good song.

A bugger to come back to work - been busy putting out little bush fires and nearly got them all. Really need to win lotto. Next job is to finally move my workshop/office.

Were they being aggressive? I've seen them on a scout camp and near our old scout hut, never had a problem with them getting them aggressive with anyone.

I was fox hunting with family a few years back and Sharyn's uncle had a Jack Russell that was fearless. We sent him into a burrow after a fox. After much thumping and banging, barking and growling it all went quiet. Waiting, waiting, and no Jack Russell from the burrow. Then the howling and whining started. The burrow had collapsed and the dog was stuck underground.

A little digging by us and a dirty Jack Russell appeared, a little more digging and so did a dead fox. Absolutely fearless dog.

There is an upscale neighborhood here in OKC, actually it is it's own township in the middle of OKC, Nichols Hills, that has so many of those birds nesting they named a park after them, Kyte Park. And yes, they are very aggressive at times. The resident joggers and such complain of getting dive bomb attacked by them. There are even bird warning signs up in the area.

A few years ago in another part of town they were setting off fireworks to try to keep them from roosting in a shopping mall. There is a pretty big flock that roosts in the few trees in the parking lot at the local grocery store this time of year. The trees look like they are in the movie "Birds." Haven't personally noticed any aggression, but park away from the doo drop zone.

Yo, Rick. SmileWavy

Morning Jim

Jim Richards 08-07-2013 03:12 AM

Has that Jack Russell moved in yet?

Rick V 08-07-2013 03:26 AM

Not yet, it is still leaning towards the neighbors house. I really don't have time for a dog nor do I really want one right now. I would love to have another Blue Tick, but this isn't a great time for any time consuming additions to the family.
If the little Jack stays here thats fine but I am not going to encourage it. Beth is very sick today so I know she won't be outside trying to convince the dog to hang around

Jim Richards 08-07-2013 03:36 AM

I hope Beth recovers quickly from her illness. SmileWavy

Yep, very aggressive. They had a TV news report on it. One local resident said he had been hit several times. The TV reporter was standing in the street and one dived bombed her.

We had a pair of Mocking birds nesting in a bush on the west side of the driveway. They would chase off squirrels, cats and other birds.
