What a dreary day.

Twasn't a bad one here. 'Bout 31C. Didn't do much. Got up late and sorted through some of our tax stuff. Took the GD and the pup down to the park ('bout 100m walk) for a swing and a run with the frisbee. Went to the hardware (Bunnings) and found a new socket set and a few new plants for the garden.

Then cooked some corned beef for dinner.

I'm kind'a limited this weekend...my back went out Friday AM and it's been painful ever since. It should be back to normal in time for w*** Monday AM. :mad:

Bugger Jim, hope it comes good quickly. If its just muscular, I've found a miracle cream called fisiocrem. It works wonders.

I have to laugh, when Jim and Lu passed through here and we met up for dinner, Jim was saying he had to sit because his back was starting to bother him, I had to stand up and walk because my back was bothering me.

D, at my old old house I had a whopping 80 amp service. I had to move circuits around to even up the load. I put up with that for over 20 years. When I was ready to sell it I was told to get the service upgraded to 200 amp. It was a simple fix and I should have done it 19 years before.

And yes a breaker will indeed get more sensitive after repeated use. I had one breaker that I had to replace with the same size breaker and that solved the problem. Electricians say that brand can make a difference as well. The cheap Chinese stuff if not the same protection as the high end good stuff.

Morning all. What's nice about the band thing is that he went from being in three to 1.5 in two days. Keeps his main band and now just has studio time for the summer camp.

thanks, guys. when i mentioned the fridge and stuff, that was just an example. you can replace the fridge with the oven and the same thing happens. basically, any time three of the large appliances are on, it will trip.

it is good to know that repeated use will make the breaker more sensitive. i am pretty sure i can replace that myself. there is a main power switch, i'll switch it off, test the circuit for load, and replace the thing with a high quality piece. honestly, this only started happening last summer, and infrequently. this summer, it is all the time. very annoying.

with the old wiring in this house, i'd be afraid to put a 200A fuse in there, even by an electrician. i suppose that all the circuits are on their own breakers and the main is closest to the source, so maybe it isn't a big deal. i wouldn't do that job myself. no way.

D as I have said before my house was built in 1943, the wires are of the cloth covered kind and I am running a 200A service.

I have a BT keyboard that I love. It is a crux skunk, and is NLA. I carry my personal iPad and use it all the time on the road. I use it for navigating, research, email, and notes in meetings. With the right apps and expectations it's an excellent tool. I can hammer out an email on it in a hurry, and the only time I grab my work laptop is when I need to pull documents together and attach them, and that's only because I don't keep stuff stored on my iPad.

Jim, I sympathize with the whole back thing, having a bad back myself, I understand your "pain"!

Hubby has flown off to Flo-ride-a, for the week, nice quiet week, until I go back to work on Tuesday.

Must admit, that I was going to peek at the work emails during my holiday, but after a day I thought F*** it, not looking, not doing it, just anything urgent they can phone me!!! So it has been wonderful!

okay, i'll check into it. our wiring is of that vintage, also... :) our house was built in 1946 and the wiring is exactly the same as it was the day it was built, except the basement which was finished about 15 years ago.

All this breaker talk reminded me of my Dad being into Citizen Band or CB Radio when I was a kid. Back then the radios were allowed more power and you had to get an FCC license to use CB. There were also strict rules for usage like stating your license numbers, language, and signing on and off of conversations.

On family vacations gas/food/motel/rest stops were at or near coffee shops or local CB club gatherings where Dad would meet up with other CB enthusiast. We would meet people, swap stories, and trade cards that included your call sign, handle, where you were from, etc. Everybody collect cards from people they talked with and/or met.

When in kindergarten was asked for my phone number. I knew my Dad's call sign and handle, but not our home phone number. My teacher didn't like it until my Dad explained all police cars had CB radios and even if my Dad wasn't listening there were enough CB friends that someone we knew would respond and help. I also knew my address.

My Dad's call sign was KEH-4697 and his handle was the Rubber Duck. He was the Rubber Duck long before the movie Convoy who's main trucker character, played by Chris Christopherson used the handle Rubber Duck.

The CB Radio thing was killed by the FCC lowering the wattage allowed by transmitters and NOT requiring anyone being licensed. They basically stopped policing the airwaves. Dad had stopped traveling and didn't make the jump to HAM radio.
