My 911 is well sorted but....

I still want to redo the pedal bushings.
I want to clean up the electrical stuff in the passenger side foot well area.
I will be replacing the brake pads and my annual every spring brake fluid replacement.
I still need to replace the backup light switch.
One more brake light switch needs to be replaced. That happens this weekend.
The fresh air blower motor needs to be swapped since the old one is noisy.
I will replace the one way t-valves for the squirters.
I need to put some fuses on the footwell blowers.

I am sure there are other little projects.

If you are going to use the bronze bushings in the pedals make sure to take your time and sand them for a smooth operation, they have a tendency to stuck if they are snug on the bench. It took me longer in the fitment dept than the actual job itself.

the 951 developed a coolant leak, today. being that the other two vehicles had head gasket failures, i feared the worst.

so, i tore into it when i got home.

after i pulled the air filter housing and intercooler piping, i still couldn't see where the leak was. but, it was obvious that it wasn't the headgasket, thank odin.

so, i am thinking its water pump. i pull the upper timing belt cover. the belts are bone dry. a real head scratcher.

mind you, there is coolant all over the front of the engine. underneath the air filter housing and AFM, especially. but i can't find any on any of the hoses, etc. WTF?!?

so, i put it back together enough to fire it up, using copious paper towels and so on. fire it up, let it run for ten minutes. turn the car off. it is leaking from the water pump block-off for the coolant to go to the turbo.

what was happening is that when hot, it was spraying coolant on the alternator belt, which was flipping the coolant everywhere.

$12 in parts and shipping. the annoyance level, however, is about a 5.

i have to have the car on monday, so i think i am going to pull the plastic piece off, doctor it a bit, and put it back on. then, when the parts get here, i am going to replace it with new stuff.

nothing like doing the same job twice.

My GTS is well sorted, all the parts that came off are on one shelf, all the parts waiting to go on are on another. Well, sorta, except for the big box of headers in the corner.

i really was sweating the head gasket. i mean, two out of three vehicles already.... why not a trifecta?

i really do think that leak started today, as the coolant level in the reservoir is nearly full, still.

anyway, you narrowly avoided a phone call, rick. :)

When the head gasket went both of my 944 Trubos neither bothered with any of that -piddily leaky drippy stuff, they made copious amounts of white smoke.

I can't believe I managed to swap the carb and set timing on the Series without electrocution or some sort of abrasion.....I hate static timing, should be freaking simple, but I always manage to shock myself.....just not this time. I may tempt fate and check valves tomorrow...It's usually a 30 minute job and only a few minor cuts...

My Series makes copious white smoke on start up, but it isn't the head gasket....some moron forgot to do the valve seals when they did a top end rebuild and has been to lazy to just go ahead and do them...

D, that was pretty much what the Disco was doing at the start of my adventures in replacing nearly the entire cooling system, stupid coolant return line was spraying onto the belt when warm and it was going absolutely everywhere....then the stupid radiator broke when I tried to get the line off, then the overflow had a pinhole, then the throttle heater plate sprang a leak and killed an O2 sensor....fun fun fun.

That's usually blue smoke.

it looks white most of the time, but if you pay attention there's a very light blue tint. HG and the entire cooling system has been replaced and compression is oddly perfect....and it's only there on start up....and I know what seal is the culprit...

In the nearly 23 years I have owned my El Camino there have only been short periods that anti-freeze did not somehow vanish from the cooling system. I really think the FBI & CIA sneak in at night and suck some out. About once a month I have to add 12 or 16 oz to the overflow bottle. No drips, no smell of coolant, no evidence of a leak, just coolant theft. Heck I even swapped engines and the leak continued.
