Or if 155 knots isn't fast enough...

Anyone have experience with the ~3wk EMT-B crash courses? That cert seems to carry some weight with potential future employers and I don't want to dick around for 4-6 months at a local comm college.

Very few civilians own a jet that can break the sound barrier. The fuel usage alone is staggering. There was a guy at the local airport where we keep our airplane that had a retired Czechoslovakian Air Force jet that could do it. He would fly down to the gulf and go far out enough to go over Mach 1. It was a real pain to do because coming back in to US airspace in a fighter jet gets lots of attention from the FAA and the USAF. He would file a flight plan of course but it was usually a big hassle.

The BD-10 kit plane is supersonic...

GH85Carrera 10-30-2014 12:49 PM

Well if you are talking a kit go big or go home.

PERFORMANCE: Top speed: 926 mph; Cruise speed: 620 mph; Initial climb rate: 30,000 fpm; Ceiling: 45,000 ft.; Range: 1,840 nm; Takeoff distance, 50 ft.: 600 ft.; Landing distance, 50 ft.: 1,500 ft.

BEDE JET CORP.

The kit starts at a cool 1/4 million. No engine no avionics, some assemble required. I bet they top out at well over a million when finished.

It would be a cool toy to have.

Some of the staff here have taken similar courses and all have said good things about it.

A couple years ago I recall someone looking at an F104 until he found out how many thousand $$ per hour of flight.

How about putting money down on an Aerion? 1.6m cruise.

Or do the PT6 instead of a piston and go higher and faster for more money.

And you can do your own maintenance and be your own test pilot! :D

The Maverick Solo Jet I pictured above does 472kts, only needs 1500 ft runway, carries 5, and only costs $1.25 mil.

It's the cheap bush plane of personal jets.

RKDinOKC 10-30-2014 03:45 PM

Then there is the how slow can your go thing...

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ZhUR-Fj_dIY?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Met a guy that was developing a STOL bush plane...said you haven't flown until you buzzed along at 25mph and had to pull up to clear a barbed wire fence. His plane had those big balloon tires and he claimed it could take off/land within 75 ft on non-paved surface. And it cruzed at 135mph.

Evening Y'all,
I think I will stick to Porsche for my regular, personal transportation needs.

RKDinOKC 10-30-2014 03:53 PM

Evenin Rick,

Yeah, I kinda like the idea if something breaks I'm just stranded as opposed to the "Find a place to put it down" scenario. Even though planes do have a better safety record than cars. And the Maverick does come with a full plane chute.

Rick V 10-30-2014 04:21 PM

Take off's are optional landings are mandatory, doesn't inspire me to get a plane. A friend of mine is rebuilding a cloth plane and it is fascinating to watch but I have no desire to do it

HHI944 10-30-2014 06:36 PM

Ooooh, new to me iPad.........shiny.....

RKDinOKC 10-30-2014 08:15 PM
