It's 64 and sunny here....
|
it is going to get to be about 60 here. very warm weather for winter in utah.
ammo prices are almost as cheap as what i can reload, in .223/5.56: Independence 5.56mm 55gr FMJ 20rds XM193I - .223/5.56mm - Rifle Ammunition - Ammunition Federal 5.56 55gr FMJ-BT 90rds on Stripper Clips XM193AF90 at 0.28/round, that is only about 0.04/round more than it costs me to reload. |
PSA had 20ct boxes of federal xm193 for $5.99 the other day.....under 30¢/rd for low volume, brass cased is nuts
|
Plowing snow here. We were supposed to get 2- 4 inches and change to rain this morning.
Got about 4"s by 6am changed to rain for about 5 min. mid morning and then back to snow. May have to go back to work this evening if it doesn't quit soon. |
The guy that has the place where I poked holes in paper last week started reloading. The he discovered how much washing and cleaning of the cartridges was involved. He sold off his reloading stuff and just buys new. He got lazy and decided he wanted to have fun not have a chore. His side yard will be a sheet of brass soon.

well, the ammo i like to feed the .308 is well over a dollar a round. i can build the same, but better, for about 36 cents/round. when i go out with the .308, i usually shoot between 40 and 80 rounds.
|
Jesus......I just did the math.....at the ~30¢/rd I usually pay for ammo, a typical range day still runs me $150 just in .223

My 7 is about $1.25 a shot for the loads I like, not too bad but considering I have yet to get a single zombie in my cross hairs it seems a bit much
|
i could reload for your 7 at about 0.38/round.
|
I save my brass, Dad reloads, right now I am working on stocking the brass. He already has the dye's for that caliber
|
nice.
when i first got my .308, i bought some NATO rounds at $13/20. they were all over the place. so, i started reloading. i got lucky and pretty much found the sweet spot really quick. the stuff that is comparable to what i am loading (same bullet/weight) is about $25/20. |
I like the federal 150gr soft tips, they are very consistent. $30/20
|
i use the sierra 168 gr BTHP matchking for target and the 165 gr BTHP gameking for hunting rounds. i've posted my targets before and i think they do okay.
|
Whenever I finally break down and get a precision rig, I'm going with one that shoots 300gr bthp...
Think I'm gonna switch to a 10.5" barrel on the AR....with the 7.5, head sized targets are I'll advised at 200....on the bright side, I'll be able to mitigate the length by running an a2 bird cage instead of the kx3....I can probably keep the added oal under 2" |
I like the light rounds for long range target shooting, they are much flatter than going to around the 300gr range.
Not to throw an I told ya so Joe but I called your longer range issue with that short rig. Mt next rig 300gr will be on the light side. :D |
300 is the common match weight for 338lm.....when I go long range, I'm going big.
The 7.5 has it's purpose and functions beautifully, but it's a 2-2.5 moa rifle and I know I can bring that down to 1.5 or so with those extra 3 inches..... I mean, who doesn't want am extra three inches |
