Threatened on several occasions to put in a gas insert. Never even attempted to build a fire. Just not the fireside chat type I guess.

I make the trip down to the cellar 4 times a day to feed this ( some times 5 or 6 if it's real cold).
5 to 6 cords a year.

Pete, how much wood do you keep inside?

One of the annoying things I battled was bugs invading my cord of wood. I would get a new cord of wood and by the time it was used up I often found some infestation of bugs. I keep all my wood outside except for a few logs that were going to be burned in the next few hours. I never used it as my main heat source, it was primarily for aesthetic and romantic purposes to seduce the ladies.

I only keep just over 1/2 a cord in the house at a time.
Never had a problem with bugs as most of the wood I cut is freshly murdered.

We have a geothermal heat pump. I like not having to do anything.

Rick, some friends of ours had an insert put in their fireplace with the fans/exchanger and since it is an insert it will only accept up to 16" logs. We were there Sunday to watch a movie with them and it was 25* out and they were able to get the room with the insert up to about 65* and the kitchen right next to it was about 50*.

We spend about $850 a year in heating and cooling. It stays at 70* in the winter and hot days 74*. It is working hard today though, it is expected to get up to -5* today. It was -8* when I came in today.

Our Durango has developed a whine in the rear end when accelerating or holding speed. Goes away when you let off the gas. I tell you what, at 184k miles it hasn't been too bad for us so I don't mind fixing it but it all seems to happen at once. I suspect it is a pinion bearing or something to do with the cold and the limited slip differential since it started after being outside all day in the cold. It also goes away when you power slide.

Bent if your Dodge has a Chrysler 9 inch rear it is the pinion bearing. they are too small for th unit and fail. I lost Peggy's a couple of years ago and was pissed at Chrysler. I set my pinion depth to the Nth degree and my backlash is a perfect .004 and it is exactly as it is supposed to be and now I have a gear whine. It was set wrong at the factory and now since it has been changed it is running in a different place on the gears. I used Hypoid gear oil and that seemed to have helped it shut up. The only thing that really makes the noise go away is 1,100 watts of blues or death metal.
My Ramcharger did the same thing but that one had LOUD pipes and I have no idea if it made noise after the repair

flipper35 01-07-2015 11:44 AM

I was thinking pinion bearing was causing some movement upsetting the gear alignment since it is not constant or the oil in the LSD causing issues, but it doesn't really make sense that it is the clutch pack. Will have some time this weekend to take a look. It doesn't leak, yet. I wish it were setup more like the old Sure-Grip diffs of old but it does pretty well.

My Ramcharger got loud when the dual exhaust broke off just in front of both glass packs. I was hard on that poor truck off road.

Rick V 01-07-2015 12:00 PM

I doubt you would be hearing any noise from a clutch pack.
Okay someone shoot me. I just got off the phone with another shop in Tucson, they were wondering where I was since I hadn't shown up. Adding more insult to injury as I had to refill a prescription for my kitty this morning. I really want to scream

I hoped you were talking about rain, otherwise see a doctor.

flipper35 01-07-2015 12:17 PM

Rick, if you take your kitty for a ride every day will it get used to traveling?

Rick V 01-07-2015 12:17 PM

The way we treat each other in here it is a wonder we actually are here. :D I love it

It goes beyond that, he travels great, he looks out the window, he doesn't fuss (much) he just shuts down if there is a change in his life, that is why he got so sick before, I was traveling for work. Two days he was okay, anything more then three and he stopped eating. If Beth were to go away for a couple of days he would die, he is her shadow

porsche4life 01-07-2015 12:31 PM

Ugghhhh... I've been trying to keep a sinus infection at bay for a few days. Today its kicking my ass! Woke up with a major headache and pressure...

Rick V 01-07-2015 12:32 PM

Karma is a bi*&h ain't she?

porsche4life 01-07-2015 12:32 PM

Take him to a kitty shrink? Or give him some xanax to chill him out? I'd be finding a way to move if I were you, and a cat wouldn't stop me....

porsche4life 01-07-2015 12:33 PM

Ya... But its supposed to be 77 today... I may have to go lay in the sun to warm up. :D

Rick V 01-07-2015 12:36 PM

Now I have a complete reason to move to Tucson, so I can drive up to Phoenix when I am bored and stomp your ass!! (that was weather related)
One thing most people don't understand about me and my kitties, I will beat a stranger to a bloody pulp before I would do anything harmful to one of my kitties. They are my children, fuzzy, arrogant, selfish children
