Monday...Reprise.

Is there a house thermostat that uses both the temperature and humidity to make the home environment the most comfortable. So in the spring and summer (AC) when the humidity goes up it lowers the temp, and in winter (heat) when the humidity goes up it raises the temp?

That would be interesting to find.

We have a thermostat at work that is neat. It will automatically change from heater to AC. We just set a range of temperature for it to keep us happy.

Many times I come in at 7:00 am and the heater is running and by afternoon the AC is running. We have a metal building with pitiful insulation.

My current thermostat does that, the differential is 3 degrees between switching from one to the other. I change the heat and cool temps according to the season. So it maintains 72 whichever season.

I am a cheapskate at home. Mrs Carrera whines about being cold when the AC is set below 77 degrees. In the winter I never heat above 71 degrees. Our house has decent insulation but it could use more attic insulation. On days like today with mid 50s in the morning and 80s in the afternoon the HIVAC system runs little if at all.

I got used to it being 71 when my brother with MS was living here. If it got above 71 he would become paralyzed because of his MS. I even installed a window AC in his room to make sure it didn't get too hot for him. After several years of that, if it gets above 72, I start sweating. Kind of an alarm, if I start sweating, he can't move. If the temp got below 70, Mom would complain that it was too cold. It was a delicate balance between MS and the old person.

Friend in Austin, until he got married kept his thermostat at 85°F in the summer, and it is humid in Austin in the summer. He would sweat so much he would take 3 or 4 showers a day and was always changing and washing clothes and bed sheets. I wondered if is water/gas bill for all that showering and washing made up for the cooling electricity he saved. After he got married, she took over the thermostat, 72 day, 68 night. I had to sleep under covers, and I usually never have to do that with my temp the same all the time.

Founder of the company I work for made his own AC using water towers for cooling. He designed the system so it would exchange all the air in his house in 10 minutes. When he left the house, he turned it off. When he came home he turned it back on. You knew it would exchange the air in 10 minutes because when you came back from going somewhere it would be sweltering in his house and he would tell you all about the AC he built himself. It was never really comfortable in his house unless he had been home for a while.

Kind of scary because it's clear that he's always scraping to make payroll happen and his monthly bill-pay is a rob-steal-beg-borrow, not always in that exact order ;) We're an internet and phone provider, our internet went down last week bc we didn't pay the bill...sweeettt.

The worst part is everyone can tell he's here to do the absolute minimum to make the company function, wants to take A LOT of lifestyle from it, and treats his people like crap.

I've only been here 17mo. and I know that he can't afford to give me a raise (which is more than deserved) so I won't make a case for myself until I know its possible. However, 2 people have been here for a long time (one 11yrs and one 15yrs) neither have seen ANY salary increase, ever!? My take is they're stupid for not asking as they know darn well, they're huge assets to the organization, it literally wouldn't run without them.

If the Saucy's weren't in the midst of making a family, I'd have been gone long ago.

My house has a lot of thermal mass. It takes several hours to raise or lower the temp if it gets more than a couple of degrees off.

In the olden days of my bachelorhood when I had total and complete control of the thermostat I kept the house at 68 max in winter and 70 in the summer. It was a 1,000 sq ft house so that helped. The heater must have been sized for a 5,000 sq ft house. It would roast you in short order.

When I rented that house out I told the skinny 100 lb chick that rented it to never set the heater up more than a degree or two or you will be opening the front and back door to cool off. Sure enough she did not believe me. She got up the first morning and bumped it up to 78. The air coming out of the furthest register from the furnace would come out at 125 degrees. Withing 5 minutes she was sweating and had to open the doors just like I told her. It would heat the house up 10 degree is just a few minutes.

Well shucks, I was thinking we could all have a Stijn Easter get together at our house next year. We do have three toilets and some buckets.

The company I worked for in CA was run by some really god guys but they were having a bad spell. I felt bad for leaving but had a young family and didn't think I could work for free for months. That plus a couple other issues brought us to WI. I was born and raised here and the kids go to the same school I did. My wife was born and raised in the desert.

We keep the house at 70 in the winter and 75 in the summer if the A/C has to run. There are quite a few days/weeks when open windows is just fine.

That's kind of how we roll. Open windows don't happen too many days/year due to the humidity here.

Well I did finally do the 911 oil change AFTER I used the clay bar, polish and wax on all of the panels but the hood. For some reasoneranother I hate waxing the 911 hood. Eh, 'll get to it soon enough.

We keep the thermostat on 68 year round. Our house is small so it doesn't take much effort to heat/cool it. My wife, like many women, is ALWAYS cold but starts to melt when the temp outside gets above 70 so I really can't win. We could not live in a humid climate.

We had to have a new furnace installed a couple of years ago when we were adding central air.

With a woodburner in an open concept house, I enjoy it in the 74-75 range diuring the winter, but what the hell, my firewood is free, i'm going to be warm. I go to other people's houses who have the thermostat set at 67, and just sit there shivering. During the summer, I turn the window AC on when the house is 80 or over , otherwise the heat doesn't bother me, I worked in a rubber molding factory for 15 years. When the heat and humidity reach 100, we go spend the evening in our 30' camper with AC and order pizza.

EAA AirVenture 1999. My not yet even fiance went with us and it was 104* and 98% humidity. It was her first trip to Wisconsin. After the airshow she asked why people live here. I told her it isn't like this all the time. There was a thunderstorm that night and it was 76* the next day and a lot lower humidity. She thought our weather was strange having grown up in the desert. I told her her weather was boring.

We get some hot, humid days now and then but not as often as the coastal SE.
