Finally updated our networking gear... New Motorola Docsis 3.0 modem and an Asus AC66 router. Hopefully this bumps our speeds up a bit and the new router can handle the volume. Things start getting slow when we are both on laptops, and both boys are on tablets watching movies. The new router beamforms also, hopefully that will extend the range a little bit. I'm trying to avoid adding a second ap.

Well it is down to 76 degrees. Amazing. From brutal hot to cool and comfortable. We even got some rain.

Recently upgraded my cable from 20 Mbps to 50 Mbps. Was still getting 20 Mbps on my laptop across the house from the router. In same room as router laptop wouild get 50 Mbps. However, my iPhone 6 was getting the full 50 Mbps anywhere in the house. Figured radio in laptop must suck. Got a new wifi router set new one up as base and set old one up as a wifi bridge on the desk my laptop usually sits on across the house from the base. Now laptop gets 50 Mbps and I didn't have to pull any wires.
Sidney, you should be able to setup your old router as another access point making it a wireless bridge to your new router. My old wifi router is not wired and it still helps with wifi bandwidth tremendously. |
I may try that. Best I'm getting on my phone or laptop is about 32mbps. Our old setup was good for about 20-25 so it is a gain. Definitely more range too.
I need to look at our bill and see what plan we are on. They have some newer plans, I may call and gripe and see if I can get us on a higher data plan too. |
I am on a home business plan t get static IP addresses for servers. Was on 20 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up. Didn't notice my laptop was slow because it was getting 20 Mbps. Was able to upgrade to 50/10 for only $10/mo more. That's when I noticed I had a problem. 802.11n should be able to do 40-50 Mbps.
The only wifi devices in my house are my laptop, iPhone, iPad, and a Color Laser Printer/Copier/Scanner/Fax. My AppleTV, Sony TV, and Sony Receiver are wired to the router. My Mac Mini Servers are on a separate wired network. On Verizon LTE (wifi off) my phone gets 13 Mbps. |
I want 16 pints of rum and then...
2 down, 14 to go :D |
The W place was over and done with quickly. That's a good thing I 'spose.

It must be all that hot air from Congress and the White House making you confused. :p |
OK Jeff, we watched a nature show last night and even the bloody mice in Australia are killers. They were swarming eating the farmers pigs alive. MICE! What is in your water over there?
Richard, some of the older routers don't have the ability to work as a bridge or simple access point so Sid might not have that ability. Why, I don't know. And if you have 5GHz available you can bond the channels for 300+ Gbps on N or C. |
You spent how much for that router, and replaced to wifi cards in your laptop with what and how close are they together to get those speeds. It is widely accepted that 40-50 is the real world speed for N.

morning all. little late got jumped coming in the door.
I need to call the manger of the local Fred Myer and scream. They are re-paving their lot. Well this am I had to drive by the store on the way to work seems the paving crew decided to drive off on public streets and little bits of asphalt all over the road. |
