I wonder what the folks with an old Piper Cub will do. I am sure someone will figure it out. |
Probably the same as him. I didn't mean he should make the unit, but I am sure someone could. It would be a pretty niche application of a product though to make a glass panel with old style graphics so it would "fit in" better. I know some Super Cubs have all glass cockpits and some are steam gauges with an iPad on the glareshield. I bet he has better restraints than when it was original as well.
I am jealous he has two nice aircraft. Next hing you will be telling me he is going to get a Lancair IV P with the 420hp upgrade. |
He has a real weakness for the Garman aviation GPS models. He goes to Oshkosh every year. He has some of the early 496 and the following models. The subscriptions for them are breathtaking.

He has good taste.
So, does anyone have an idea where to get an inexpensive projector for a computer? It does not have to be HD but SVGA or better native would be good. It does not have to have high lumens either. It is for this: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8vMpX8x-crjduJ99TR3sAA And this. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/F8_Z9ksi8KU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Long time ago flew in a King Air. Was told the avionics were worth more than the plane.

That shooting thing sounds like what they are doing with VR glasses and using AR instead of the web cam.

Oh man, company just emailed me cause I had $25 long distance on my cell phone. Made some tech support calls to a company in Canada. Have never had worry about long distance calls. I've called Russia, China, Canada, Germany, the UK, and even Australia in the past with no issue. There was sales person who racked up $3000 texting his wife here in OK from a meeting he was in in Russia.

Yea, calling a 1-900 number for tech support is not usually a good idea. ;)
|
Guess it depends on what you are trying to keep up.

The spoon trainers use a laser to show where the shot hits the screen and a camera picks it up. There was a booth set up with a LaserShot system a couple years ago at Austin and it was pretty cool. I was second high score for a while but didn't have time to try it more than a few times. The winner got a computer with a keg in the case. Didn't need that either.

Called tech support in England. The chick that answered the phone spoke English, there wasn't an unfamiliar word she spoke. However, she talked so fast and her British accent was so thick it took me from 5 to 10 seconds to process what she said. Glad she was just a receptionist and the actual tech support guy spoke without any discernible accent.

I love the TV show Wheeler Dealers. I think it is funny to hear the difference in the way Edd sounds which is very understandable and the way Mike is sometimes hard to understand.

The stuff they showed off this year was you wear VR glasses with the AR stuff on them (cameras and sensors). The AR stuff sees the gun in you hand(s) and projects it in the VR scene. Like using a VR game were whatever you have becomes the controller.
AR stands for Augmented Reality. |
ArsTechnica had something like that a while ago. It was a wireless system. The guy that reviewed it was told (while he had the goggles on) to go grab the gun the demo supervisor was holding. He went over and grabbed it even though he could only see it virtually. They also did an architectural demo of a multifloor building. He said it was fun to walk around in an empty building yet could see all the detail of the virtual building. To switch floors they all got in the "elevator" and when they got out it was a new floor.

They are all using the oculus rift stuff from facebook now.

Stijn!!
A nice exciting grass fire started right next to the interstate I-44 and I-35 right next to the road. You can bet it was a cigarette. It is real near us and blowing this general direction. I think it is blowing east of us right now. I turned on my sprinklers to water the yard.
