Meh....Saturday....off to work...again :(

Hey Glenn, this photo you posted;

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1471649092.jpg

It's the north Stuart Hwy about 5min outta Alice Springs. I'll be out that way in about half an hour on my way to work. I pass them big mobile chicanes all the time, it's pretty common out here.

Oh Haha 08-19-2016 04:51 PM

How the heck do you pass one of those? I see a double white line in the pic. Does that mean no passing like here in the US?

Outback Porsche 08-19-2016 06:40 PM

Yep same same, double line =no passing.

If the photographer had turned 180deg and taken a pic you would see the lines change to 'single broken'.

You need about a km of free space to overtake one of these.

It looks nice out here when it's all green like that. It's not so green no more after the winter frosts.

Don't those land trains go pretty fast?

RKDinOKC 08-19-2016 06:52 PM

Going to think positive and clean up the 2nd car parking spot in the garage tomorrow. It is basically a bunch of stuff my sister and SIL deemed "Give Good Will" because I will never use it.

Not really.

All heavy vehicles in Oz are supposed to be speed limited to 100kph.

Oh, and we call 'em road trains. The biggest I've seen is four trailers (but the first two of them trailers were a about 2/3rds normal length).

Sounds like the 450hp Cayenne would come in handy passing one of those big slow pokes.

The first time I got pulled over in my 944TurboS I was behind a patrol car that was also behind a very slow moving pickup truck. The police car passed him. In the next passing zone, pulled out, nailed it, and passed the pickup. As soon as I got by, pulled back into the right lane. and slowed to the speed limit. The officer pulled me over and said I went too fast passing that slow pickup. Don't know why but had a Oklahoma drivers manual used for learning to get your license. Pointed out to him that in the instructions it said when passing to move around the vehicle as quickly as possible. He let me off, but told me I wasn't supposed to go over the speed limit even when passing.

Richard, sorry for not getting back to you sooner on the lights. Ran to get a tire patched and they took way longer than it should have. Call me Monday and I'll get them done for you.

RKDinOKC 08-20-2016 03:56 AM

No Prob.

If I have a flat fixed at the local tire place they fix it for free. I always tip the guy doing the flat fixing. He looks like the low man on the totem pole and working harder too. Last time gave him a gift card to local BBQ joint that had around $15 left on it.

We are off the PCA breakfast. We live a couple of miles east from the dividing line of the east west of the city. The place we are going has a local phone number, and is 45 minutes away and mostly interstate driving. This metro area is very spread out. Lots of people live there and commute in to the city.

Oh Haha 08-20-2016 06:59 AM

Have a good breakfast Glen!

We are proposing taking the kids school clothes shopping today. Wifey is working until noon. I say proposing because the plan could change based on kids attitudes.

I've got some NY strips thawing for supper. I found the bargain bin at the local grocery store a few weeks ago. Sure there is some green on the meat but you can cook that out.:D

Jim Richards 08-20-2016 07:02 AM

Meat and green veggies all in one? Fantastic! :D

I tried to sell it that way to my wife but she wasn't buying. She doesn't like steak anyway so I figure it doesn't matter. My daughter and I will have the steaks.

Always considered Oklahoma City a big suburb that you only have to go downtown for legal stuff.

Even though the Porsche shop I take my cars to is right on the edge of downtown.

Got to tour the top floors of the phone tower in HS with it's microwave relays and 2 floors of old mechanical phone switches. It looked old even back then.

Oh Haha 08-20-2016 01:36 PM

Saw a Dark Gray Cayenne today and thought of you Richard. yeah, I know your new one Beigeish but still..

Man, going to my drum shop is like a candy store. I always find something I need.

We have the Woodward Cruise and Flint's Back to the Bricks car events going on this weekend. Lots of cool cars out and about. Mostly muscle but I dig those, too.

Just reported on local tv that the Flint eventis being shut down early due to severe storms on the way. They are calling for heavy rain, hail, and high winds.

RKDinOKC 08-20-2016 03:48 PM

Glad the new to me Cayenne isn't on a hauler going thru that far north. Or at least I hope not!

Don't remember seeing any Beigeish ones driving around. Mostly black or white or dark gray. There is also a new white Macan zooming around my part of town.

It's always interesting what you see bombing around here the weekend of the national hot rod show.

It's about time international 928 owners club is had another convention, OCIC. The last one I went to was just before I stepped on the nail 4 years ago. It was in Wichita KS because it was centrally located in the US. There were 80 928s there. Two years ago they held it in Canada. The president has proposed Oklahoma City for the next one and he lives in Tulsa. He proposed OKC because its centrally located, has a big hotel with a skyway to a convention center and walking distance from our bricktown area for all kinds of food and entertainment. They usually hold it in the summer with it inside a convention center. They usually just spend Satuday hanging with all the cars and have several sessions for all kinds of things from repair to detailing. Last one I went to they installed a supercharger, had detail sessions, lots of custom parts installs, and a session on the shark tuner retuning the ECU. The guy that does the detailing sessions has been winning car shows with his work. My car got 3rd place in the car show.

Oh Haha 08-20-2016 04:01 PM

This wasn't on a hauler.

Weird. My wife left to take the girl shopping a brunette and came back a blond.

Still a cutie, though. rowr rowr
