Morning all.

My brother and sister in law drove from Montgomery, Alabama to Golden, CO to visit their youngest son. The have been out there all week. Going up to the continental divide at Loveland pass was fun since in had snowed about a foot. Playing in the snow when you go to visit it can be fun. It sucks big time when it comes to visit me.

My brother said the drive from Kansas City to Denver was the most boring drive he has ever made. He was saying they would drive for hours and hours, stop at a rest stop or gas station and it looked identical. It was like a twilight zone episode where they just thought the were making progress across the country. They were going to be stuck on the road trip forever. ;)

They are heading home and they did NOT want to make that drive again. So they are going south to Raton, NM and then highway 87 over to Amarillo, and across on I-40 and stop here for a quick visit. That will be nice. :D

When we drove from Wyoming to Lincoln last year I swear we were stuck in a loop for a while.

Yea, it really is hard to explain to people that live in the New England area how BIG the western states are. We drove clear across (east west) Connecticut in the 911 and used a 1/4 tank of gas. It does not work like that out west.

It is also weird to realize that El Paso, TX is 724 miles from San Deigo, CA though three other states but El Paso, TX is 814 miles from Texarkana, TX.

morning all. last day before heading to North Carolina for a week. Going to be interesting seems I lost my license. Got a temp replacement from the DMV but I don't think the car rental place will accept it. JERKS!!!!

Have fun in NC, David. Eat some vinegar-based BBQ while you're there.

If you do I hope you find a better place than I did. Several Pelicans recommended it so I programmed it into my GPS. The sauce was OK, but the meat was more like jerky. It was so tough I simply could not cut it with the plastic knife they provided. I had to use my pocket knife to cut the sliced brisket. My jaw got tired of chewing and since it was not a survival situation I left most of it and went to a burger joint down the road. On a 1-10 scale is was a not even a one. Maybe a 3/4 of a point if you are real hungry.

Was driving through AR back when I first got my 914. Both my nephew and I got hungry. There was a billboard that said BBQ next right. We thought that sounded good and followed the sign. Along the THRITY MILES from the highway there were signs that said, "BBQ, Keep going you are almost there." Each sign just made us more hungry for some BBQ.

When we finally got there it was this litte shack of a place with a gravel parking lot and NOBODY there. Inside there were pictures of huge prize bulls on the wood panelling and maybe 8 tables total and no counter. A very large rotund black guy in an apron came from a door, took our order, and brought out this huge plate of brisket for us to share. It was some of the best brisket I'd ever had.

My nephew and I will still argue about whether it was really that good, or the fact we followed signs for almost an hour after leaving the highway hungry that made it seem good.

Still think it was weird that it was 2 in the afternoon and there were no other customers.

not sure where food will come from. remember I am taking an 84 year old man

At least it won't be McDonalds?

My Dad always liked stopping at Arby's when traveling. And thats back when their "Meats" were roast beef, more roast beef, or less roast beef. I don't even remember them having a option for that cheese goop.

I'm back. Had some Oreo thins and a glass of ice cold calf juice.

Traffic was horrible, almost had an accident.
Pepper had set up a road block in the hallway.
Had to pay the toll and rub her tummy to get by.

Just caught up with the last couple of weeks posts.

We bum around here for a few days getting stuff done in a yard thats gunna get neglected for three weeks. Then we fly south to Melbourne, pick up a 5hit box nissan and drive for two hours to a little coastal town on Bass Straight.

Never gotten much bumming around my yard. Prolly do better on a busy street corner with one of those cardboard signs.

No bumming around here. My brother and sister in law are on the way.
The lady that normally cleans our house lost her mother and aunt last week. She has been out of town cleaning out her moms house so they can sell it. So no cleaning for us except by us. So I just finished sweeping the floors. It has been wet and rainy all week and I need to mow. That is the next step.
They good news is my brother is coming in the motorhome. They will have room for their wedding photo negatives. I photographed the wedding in 1978 and kept the negatives and one set of prints all these years. No longer. They get em. Along with a crapload of old phots of us as kids. They have kids to give them to someday.
Off to mow a wet yard. It rained a 1/4 inch last night. The sunshine should be drying it up some.
Clear blue skies so my partner is up flying. :D

Went to lunch with my Bro Thurs. Told him the story of my adrenaline hobbies and that I needed to find a new one. He didn't understand or have any suggestions.

Had stress/blood pressure problems and was on BP meds. Kind of stumbled into building and flying R/C airplanes. The concentration of flying them gave me an adrenaline rush and cleared my stress. So much so that doc had to take me off the meds because they were making my BP too low.

Then moved to a new house with a two car garage and decided could get another Porsche. Had a 914 earlier as my DD and sold it because parking outside was starting to show. With garage parking could get another Porsche. Had a mini-van to haul planes and bro with wheel chair.

Liked 928's, put the mini van up for sale and started looking. The hatch back would let me carry both planes or bro and chair. And at the time was driving back and forth to Dallas to visit friends. Would be a lot more fun than a mini van.

Had several misadventures 928 shopping. Then the mini van sold and needed something to drive. Saw there were a lot of 944s on the market cheap. Could get one to drive and sell it quick when I found a 928. Looked at all the 944s for sale that Saturday and ended up with a 88 944 Turbo S. Was sold the first time accelerated driving away from the lot before I even shifted to 3rd. It worked great toting planes and even fit Mom and Bro with wheelchair.

In the glove box of the 944TS was a road and track special feature on the 944 Turbo S. It was touted as an autocross killer. Checked around, the local PCA had an autocross once a month. Went to my first autocross. Only thing I remember really is the instructor telling me I didn't have to go thru the center of the cones, and him turning my windshield wipers off for me a couple of times per lap. At the end of the day I had gotten 2nd...from last, But they all told me I was the winner because you could see my big grin despite having a full face helmet on.

This important thing was the huge adrenaline rush I got. More than flying R/C because I was in the car. I was hooked. And it was a good thing because the R/C flying field was shut down to put a highway thru. The few other local flying fields just sucked for on reason or another.

Ended up selling off all my R/C stuff. The local hobby shop gave me their mini van to fill with all of my planes, radios, etc and gave me $1000. Invested that in the 944 Turbo S. Most all the upgrades were suspension mods to make it handle better while "in the zone."

Went from 2nd slowest to often setting FTD. For me it wasn't really about getting FTD, it was about driving the car as fast as I could, 4 wheel drifting thru the corners putting me "In the zone."

Tried all sorts of driving events. Other Autocross events and High speed touring track events. The SCCA you spent from 8am to 6pm and only got 4 runs in. Just not enough driving.

The Corvette club autocross was similar to the PCA one, but they were much too competitive and their courses were too open to really get into the zone concentration wise. They also quit talking to me when they discovered I was setting faster lap times than they did.

Went to a few track days at the local circuit. It was fun, ended up a couple of time racing around with the fastest ones on the track. But is was so different. The speeds were much faster, but the time you spend in the corners is longer so the required reaction times just aren't there. More often than not you get stuck behind someone that keeps you from driving fast enough to be in the zone and they hog up the track not letting you pass (safely) and the track stewards get upset with you if you drive around them without them motioning for you to pass.

Went thru sevral cars. The 944 TruboS, a 928 GT, a BoxsterS, another 944 TurboS, and finally the 928 GTS. The all drove a little different, but was able to balance the suspension well enough they could be drivin in the zone. With the newer faster Porsche Models I wasn't getting FTD nearly as much, but like I said, it was about driving "in the zone" 4 wheel drifting the corners.

Then I stepped on that freakin nail. Despite all my efforts not being able to heel and toe killed being able to drive in the zone with a 5 speed. Have driven automatics and it's just not there. And can't afford anything with PDK to even try.

Tried R/C copters and quad copters. And the concentration is there, but with my age and eyesight just can't keep up with the repairs of those tiny plastic parts to keep them flying.

So...still looking for another hobby. And no Dog Training, as satisfying as it is, just doesn't take the concentration or provide much of an adrenaline rush.

Tour looks purty. Still green around here. Haven't really gotten and cooller temps, not that I am complaining.

Yeah....kind of surprised the leaves finally got some color. Thought they would just dry up and fall off. It's been hot and dry this fall but we've had a few frosts and a little rain and the colors are decent so far.
