Well this will be some real magic software if it works as advertised. It is supposed to clone my hard drive "live" while it is running.

So I will (supposed to) be able to re-boot, go to BIOS and tell the BIOS to use the new SSD as the boot drive and and make the current drive just a data drive for now. If all that works as advertised, I will pull the old drive, format it and be up and running with a boot SSD drive.

It sounds like magic.

Think all of the mac backup software lets you do bootable backups of a bootable drive while it is running. The ones I use do.

If I want to upgrade an internal drive...
Go to Startup Drive settings, choose the backup drive.
Shut down the computer.
Swap in the new drive.
Restart the computer (starts on the bootable backup)
Make a bootable backup onto the new internal drive.
Go to Startup Drive settings, choose the new internal boot drive.
Reboot.
As long as the new internal drive has the same name as the old one I'm good.
If I renamed it, it have to update the drive names in the backup schedules.

Way back in the olden days before OSX, to make a drive bootable you had to use a file editor and flip a bit on an invisibile file. If you made all files visible the icon for the file was the killer Rabbit of Caerbannog from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Spent all day yesterday watching Bro Bob replace the battery on his 2005 Honda Odyssey. And it took him from 9am to 6pm. Being my oldest brother, he refuses to listen to any of my suggestions. Including my first suggestion to jumpstart the car, and drive it to a Walmart Auto Center where he had bought the battery 1 year ago.

Eventually had to drive him and his dead battery (he had removed from the car) to a Walmart Auto Center. It had a bad cell, but their checker just said bad battery, replace. I also pointed to the sign at Walmart that labor replacing batteries was free. After we got home and he got it installed he left his van idling 2 hours to "Charge" the new fully charged battery?

After I saw he was going to ignore my suggestions I started suggesting extraterrestrials were messing with his car electrical system. Said he couldn't understand why his cheap Walmart battery only lasted 1 year. Told him it was the men in black in collusion with the ETs.

Told him I usually get Interstate batteries because they last the entire warrantee period in my experience. Said the Walmart battery was $110 and he couldn't afford an Interstate. Interstates are $124 for the same battery and warranty. Told him the price of the Interstate for his Honda and that NOT spending a day messing with the battery to me was worth spending the extra $14. Don't think we had the same Dad or he didn't listen. My Dad taught me to do a little research and get the best value when buying something because cheaper usually cost more in the long run.

While waiting for the computer to process and print his paperwork the Walmart battery guy said he does warrantee replacement of over 60 batteries a day at that one Walmart Auto Center, Yikes. Didn't do anything to improve my opinion of the products Walmart sells.

Wooohooo! No longer hosting any guest for Thanksgiving!

NOW CAN TURN TV BACK DOWN AND TRY TO TALK WITHOUT YELLING.
He really needs to use some hearing aides.

A few years ago he was complaining he needed hearing aides so I got him a hearing aide thing at Radio Shack that looks like a bluetooth headset. I tried it and it worked pretty well, especially for $20. He claimed it worked but thought it made him look silly. Told him it just looked like he liked to talk hands free on his phone. He still won't use it. Evidently he thinks he needs $7,000 hearing aides.

Good Morning! Still have Thanksgiving leftovers?

Jim Richards 11-27-2017 06:37 AM

Nope. Being guests instead of the host helped cut down our leftovers. :)

Porsche-poor 11-27-2017 06:55 AM

morning all. first one in the office..................I might be the first one to leave to.

RKDinOKC 11-27-2017 08:17 AM

Being first to leave might be really awkward if you are the one that locks up.

Porsche-poor 11-27-2017 09:18 AM

front door is an electronic lock so no problem there.

Good Morning.

"Black History Month", its ok if it goes that way.

However, I was wondering about a "White Christmas".

Digging around on the internet yesterday at different computer sources I found several that woould be nice. We would need a contract with the federal government to get to charge enough to afford the system, It had 4TB of RAM, 4 Nivida GTX 1080 16 GB cards, multiple SSD drives and 2 of the newest bleeding edge Intel CPUs and it had a total of 128 cores, with 256 total threads. All for a meager 52 grand. It of course has full water cooling and likely dims the lights when it is fired up.

I did find a computer that is pretty nice for $620 that is supposed to be here tomorrow. I will have fun getting it setup and ready to be our little slave.

Just make sure your software can use that power.

My software that is greatly helped by computing power can run 64 threads, so I have 64 non multi threading cores for my PC.

It does not dim the lights; but I don't need a heater at my desk either.

Good Monday (Saturday for some of you) morning. We had thanksgiving with dad's side of the family at a restaurant that my cousin owns. We had a few more than usual but a lot of people didn't stay as long. I think the final count was 94. It is still a far cry from when we rented the fairgrounds building to fit everyone.

Then we had another at our house with mom and dad last night. It was far quieter.

This morning it took an hour to get to work instead of 22 minutes because they were routing traffic from the 4 lane bridge to the 2 lane bridge.

Ah well. Sounds like everyone is well fed.

Porsche-poor 11-27-2017 10:48 AM

well fed and still in a food coma.

flipper35 11-27-2017 10:49 AM

I hear that.

Jim Richards 11-27-2017 11:24 AM

We had rain this morning. I can't remember the last time it rained here.

RKDinOKC 11-27-2017 11:48 AM

Are you sure it's not raining Thanksgiving vittles?

RKDinOKC 11-27-2017 11:55 AM

While my parent's generation was alive we had big family gatherings of all their siblings, cousins. etc. My generation don't seem to care. Have tried a couple of times and got no responses. Heck, my siblings won't even get together all at once. And that doesn't include the half-sister and her family that I have only met once for 5 minutes 35 years ago and then didn't meet her husband or any of her 4 kids.

The gatherings started getting a lot smaller by the time I went to HS and stopped altogether a few years before my Dad passed.

GH85Carrera 11-27-2017 12:34 PM

Good afternoon all.

Well, for sure fer sure, Adding the monster video card and changing to a SSD makes my computer act right snappy for Photoshop files. I had a couple of oblique projects to edit and get sent to the client today. Photoshop was virtually instant, click and done with that task.

I like it!
