I am off to visit the national severe storms lab in Norman, OK shortly. It should be interesting.
|
That should be fun. :)
|
Sammy, funny that I finished my degree in EC.
|
Stijn!!
I found the cafe! Sammy will love the name of the place.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f972d67156.jpg Amazing place. The weather center, not the cafe. We did not go in the cafe. Every weather watch in the country is issued there. |
Richard, you just need a bunch of those disposable body panels the monster trucks use.
|
At the weather service when they were building the area for the cafe, they held a contest for the name of the cafe. The flying cow won out. They have the actual movie props used in the movie Twister. And they have the original real device that inspired Steven Spielberg when he was doing the movie. The original device was full of concrete, and weighed 400 pounds so it was not a quick setup. It never once managed to be in the right place for the tornado to hit it.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1561664353.JPG The real one one is the orange one. It was called TOTO or toteable instrument. The props were made from old water heaters, and they had to edit out the one drain fitting that you can see next to the yellow bar on Dorothy. Now days they have flown drones and even fired rockets into the tornadoes. Doppler RADAR is the most used instrument for measuring the supercells and mesocyclones and tornadoes. |
That pretty darn cool, Glen. I like that movie, Twister, too.

Holy fecal matter!
That right front damage that did not even get into the fender or wheel...$7K Half the value of the Cayenne Turbo |
That is why so many cars get totaled with just minor overall damage.
One headlight on new cars can cost as much as my entire first brand new car. All the bells and whistles are cool, but just expensive. |

I had to replace one headlight on my El Camino. I had to pay just over under 12 bucks! Why I remember back in the day when.......
|
Replaced both headlight assemblies right after I first got it because they were fogged and the wiring insulation in them was cooked brittle and cracked. They were $1500 from Porsche. Got them straight from Valeo in Spain for $750 including the import tarrif on vehicle parts.

One of the guys I used to work with had a Chevy Suburban and he hit a deer, and it tore up the vehicle a lot. He got it fixed, then called some jokers to come out and attache some brush bars. Later we went to the parking lot to check out the work. I could wiggle the bars with ease. They were just sheet metal screwed to the bumper. Total joke of an installation. He felt better, and I guess I did not care since it was not my car or money.
|
A friend of mine had a Blazer with the bolt to the bumper style bars. He was sad when he tore the front of his vehicle up.
I wish mine had the bumper that the Power Wagon on Simon and Simon had. |
The range rover bars looked hefty enough, they were just bolted to the bumper bolts in two places so looked to me like they would tear some stuff up if it hit anything substancial,
|
You could always just get the big tires and roll over everything that gets in your way.

A client called and said they want just what they had last time, except all the prints the same size. So not what they had last time, but different. Grrrr, now I have to dig in the old files, as set up new print files from scratch. Grumble grumble.
Ok, so I make the files like they what they asked, for me to go ahead and make an invoice so they can bring a check when they get the prints. Well, they just became one of our favorite customers. Top of the list really nice folks. Yes sir, really great folks! Thank you sir. ;) |
