good luck. My local tire shop did my entire swap out without lifting the car.
|
Thanks! I'm bringing them in off the car and will buy lunch for the guy if he is conscientious of other people's property, otherwise I will turn my wife loose on the place, blood will flow!! ;)

Thanks Glenn,
I tried through Tire Rack first ( Vredestein Sprint Classic Series Tire 185/70HR15) and they wanted $65 per tire more than Jegs, so I bought and had them shipped to work, arriving tomorrow. I asked a local independent Porsche shop whom they used and they agreed with you to use Discount Tire. Yes to pics before and will note that to the shop. I will make sure they are shiny and clean for the weights! |
I have a set of Euromiester 17s fake Fuchs on my 911. It is impossible to find good high performance tires for the 15 inch factory Fuchs that work in rain, and highway driving and yet have great performance at a track day or autocross. So I went to the 17s.
Over the years, I collected the Porsche OEM square edge wheel weights. A friend worked at a wheel repair place, ans he collected more as they came through. So I have a collection to bring the place that mounts and balance my wheels. They try hard to use weights only on the inside, and will take the time to rotate the tire on the rim to need no weights if possible. Then they give me back the unused weights. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1717509370.jpg I like the way they look. I had a wheel repair shop painted the centers white like the original wheels. They did some minor weight balance adjustments on the wheels when they had them. |
Morning! Looks great Glen.

Well Reuben killed another critter. I wish he had left it alone. It was a Red belly Snake. About 14 inches long, and guess what, it has a red belly. Real complex naming for it.
|
Morning all. Our Boston is all gruff and bluff. I think her shadow would win in a fight.
|
Any critter in Reuben's back yard is not allowed, by order of Reuben!
He does have limits, and he just alerts us to large snakes. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1717598976.JPG He did chase this "right angle snake" up the wall, so we locked him out of the back yard until it left. It was told to leave by lots of barking. He has killed one bunny and one squirrel so far. Lots of skinks, and little brown snakes. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1717599178.jpg He was sprayed twice by a skunk. We had the skunk trapped and her kits, and they were all "taken to the farm" by a pro. Since no one at all wants a skunk, he euthanizes the skunks with nitrogen. He loves to eat the cicadas, and actively hunts them as they are emerging and I guess he like veal cicadas, but I know he loves even dead ones as they are extra crunchy. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1717599442.JPG He is my early warning detection system for invading mice. He disposes of them biologically. I then know to set traps to eliminate any more. |
A wanted poster picture if I ever saw one.
|
He has eaten several mice that we know of. No one knows what other ones he has disposed of when we were not at home. I always praise him for killing mice.

Having fun here. I started collecting the "stuff" needed for the tip into various bags for packing. I figured I would swap positions of the El Camino and the 911 to get the 911 in the work bay. I went to hit the key, and nothing. I checked the battery and it was low, so I charged it a bit, and got it to start. The voltage meter shows 8 volts. Crap, another bad alternator. It had been on there since 2011 so not that old.
The good news is it is a 15 minute process to take off. The replacement is free, as it has a lifetime warranty. The bad news the local store does not have it in stock, so it has to be brought from the warehouse and it will not get there until 4:30. It is a 20 minute job to put it back on and there are bolts that need to align just right and always some fiddling needed. So I will go fetch it later today, and install in in the morning when it is cool. The stupid thing is the dang thing uses three different sizes on sockets. |
Reuben went on full alert around the storage building. I set traps, but no mice yet.
It was almost comical at Autozone for the alternator swap. Evidently the guy that ordered the new one set it up as a sale. The second guy there to sell it to my in the afternoon said the computer would not swap out a warranty part for some new one. So he had to sell it to an imaginary customer for cash, and the return it as damaged. Then after several times through the loop of computer system he managed to get it accept my swap. It is $120 for a new customer. My cost was zero, except two trips to the store 6 miles away. It is now a non stock item. I had to buy the first one way back in 1996. As I remember it was $30 bucks back then. That would be $60 in today's dollars. Anyway, now I get to install it shortly, and the mow the yard! Party time. |
well crap. Went after a tank of gas in the 911.........the ground gremlin is still there and I now I thin its behind the gage. The fuel level didn't move to full till I took off from a light then both behaved for a bit.
|
I was one tired geezer this afternoon. The 20 minute install of the new alternator fought me tooth and nail, and became a 2 & 1/2 hours fight. It must be just millimeters different than the last one. I had to loosen every bolt on the brackets, even into the water pump and intake manifold to get the new one in.
Bending over the engine compartment was killing my back and neck. I finally got that done. and had to mow the yard. It was upper 80s by then. I was exhausted. I came in, took a shower and a nap. Feeling much better now. |
Morning all. Sounds like a lot of no fun Glen. Hope you get to rest a bit today.
|
Not much rest. I have to pack my "personal stuff" and then cram everything into the 911. Packing for two for a week. And it is already 90 degrees here.
|
Morning all. Fun was had by all I think. Glen got to parade and I took mine to breakfast on Saturday.
