Mornin all. Catered cookout lunch for all employees today!

Porsche-poor 07-28-2021 08:17 AM

free food. Hope its good food.

GH85Carrera 07-28-2021 08:24 AM

Free food is usually good food.

Back in my single days I always loved to eat other people's cooking. Well, actually I still like other people's cooking for most things.

Exceptions are rare. I dated one chick that cooked me a tuna casserole at her place. I still think she used cat food for the "tuna" as it was really hard to swallow. Oddly enough I was full after just a few bites. Dang, it was bad. I suggested we go for a walk just to get out of the apartment that reeked of cat food.

It was our second and very last date.

The company bringing the food usually does a very good job.

Bonus!

It is a real challenge to provide food for a large group. Inevitably there are vegetarians, vegans, and people with food allergies. Just a few, yet they deserve a meal as well.

I am real glad I am not in the food business.

Where I work they tell the caterer what to bring and then tell the employees this is what there is to eat and let people decide if they want it. The cookies were even good today.

GH85Carrera 07-28-2021 12:12 PM

Where I work the mean boss makes me make him a sandwich and then he eats it!

Porsche-poor 07-28-2021 12:23 PM

Glen I think we work at the same place. If I want to complain about the food I have to use the bathroom mirror.

Most of the time I just steal the IT Directors hot pocket or salad. Sometimes he has noodle meals that are OK. Always has good fruit though!

Porsche-poor 07-28-2021 01:10 PM

the director has it coming. We just learned that all our speed problems are caused by the virus protection and onedrive.

Porsche-poor 07-29-2021 06:48 AM

Morning all. I get a new computer today. Wonder how long that will take to set up.

flipper35 07-29-2021 08:35 AM

Odd that One Drive is causing that much issue, unless it only borks the up/down speeds.

We finally have fiber out in the middle of the country. The sub that put the fiber to the house was lazy and didn't put it where the old router was so the guys put the new router in, turned the wireless off and used the access point on that end of the house and then used the old router as an access point but didn't turn the router feature off. They just put the cat6 in the wan port instead of lan port. I called to get the passwords for the router because it messed up the internal network because i use a managed switch and they used a different subnet and had two different subnets on wireless. they told me the old router wan't handing out DHCP because they pulled the cable out of the lan port. I said the wireless still did and they were liek "oops".

I had originally told them to move the AP to where the old router was and would have eliminated a bunch of these issues. At least they tried.

Now our upload speed is double what our download speed used to be, but I am surprised the up/down isn't the same on fiber.

Porsche-poor 07-29-2021 09:04 AM

The problem with one drive is lets say you have a 75meg 3D file to work on. You download it to the desktop, one drive starts a save. When you open it AutoCAD makes a few temp files and opens other files so the virus protection starts real time looking at things. Then about 5 min in you hit save and AutoCAD makes a .bak file the same size at 75megs. So now one drive has the new changed file and the .bak to upload. Most CAD users have their auto saves set at 5 min just to be safe.

Its mess. To top it off we found out They moved all our archive files from a network location to something called Azure and now its not searchable. GRRRRR

At the building I worked at for many years there were three different companies with Fiber on a pole just 12 feet from our building. Cox, and AT&T both wanted insane money for a hookup. The other company only supplied the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation building on the other side of a fence from our building.

Maybe someday we can get fiber from Cox instead of the Coax cable. Coax seems to be fast enough for the gigabit connection.

Azure is the MS cloud service similar to AWS.

So far I can fond no one who knew it was moved. I needed to find some drawings and the network link was no good. I had to put in an IT ticket to find out how to get there.

Crazy

flipper35 07-29-2021 09:42 AM

Well, it is supposed to be seamless you know. That's what ALL the cloud providers tell me. Sure, and Sid is next to the ocean.

Porsche-poor 07-29-2021 09:44 AM

well it was no big deal to use after I got the instructions on where it went and how to login. I have asked the team and so far not one person new it had been moved.

flipper35 07-29-2021 09:47 AM

Someone higher up decided to go to the cloud and forgot to pass that info along? Also, you can never trust those IT guys to give info out, you have to pry it from them.

Porsche-poor 07-29-2021 10:28 AM

I'm off to go buy a big hammer so I can get the info I need.
