Why would you think a thing like that?

You have obviously never been to a government bureaucrat office.

At least the weather is much more comfortable for working on a car. I love the 50 degree mornings. I tinkered in my garage last Sunday and I did not even turn on the air conditioning. The ceiling fans kept me cool.

Young Sidney, remember those words when you look for a job/career post-graduation.

I will replace the cooling fan clutch on the El Camino this weekend. It is all worn out after 288,000 miles. The new one cost me 40 bucks! That is almost 14 cents every 1000 miles. The aftermarket one will not last more than 100,000 miles from what I read.

A friend of mine went to work at the state tax commission. He showed up on Monday morning at 8:00 AM ready to start his job. The office was locked and NO ONE showed up until 8:30. The employees sat around eating doughnuts and discussed their weekend until 10:00. They all stopped for a coffee break at 10:30. At 11:30 they went to lunch until 1:00 PM. He kept thinking it was a just a Monday morning thing. It wasn’t. He finally quit because he was so bored.

That may very well be true. I was also thinking of the pension benefits. I know it seems far-fetched to think about those things in your 20s. But the job security that comes with a government job, backed with comparatively generous pension benefits that are practically guaranteed (because your employer is the government) is something that becomes increasingly attractive with age. It's nice to be able to think about retirement in your 40s and 50s. In the private sector, you can be left working 'til the day you die (and not out of choice).

I tell people I want to to work for Uncle Sam... Be it at a Sams Club(more relaxed than walmart, slightly better clientele) or for the Fed. I've done a few hours of observation in the local Indian hospital pharmacy. I like what I saw... The VA is recruiting pretty hard too.

VA is not a bad way to go. They work...but not too hard. (We couldn't start any scheduled OR cases after 3:30, as they didn't have nursing staffing to cover after 5 pm--ignoring that most of my surgeries take an hour or less to perform.) Relaxed setting. Patients are largely grateful. No insurance hassles. (I fkking hate insurance companies. ) Computerized medical records that actually are fairly good (and tied in to all other VAs in the country). And government job security + pension. You won't be doing much supermodel gynecology at the VA, but hey, save that for your home life.

I had yet another long lunch. I donated blood today. I got a free t-shirt & some cookies

Once again the cute nurse was busy with two women. I got the young black chick. The most important thing is she was competent.

competence in the medical field is important and often overlooked.

Yea, it was more important to me than anything else.

Many years ago when I donated blood it hurt like hell when she pulled the needle out. I was bleeding like a stuck pig. The needle was still in her hand with a chunk of me hanging off of a barbed needle. It was manufactured wrong. Every time as they are about to stick me they suggest I turn my head. I never do, I am looking at the needle to make sure it looks normal.

I quit giving blood when I got stuck 6 times twice in a row to get me to bleed.
