I was in contact with a few of this family before I divorced. Writing a FB message to one of the "cousins" at the moment. We'll see what happens.

It was nice to actually see the face of my birth mother and biological brother last night. Fills a little more of the hole that exists in me.

Message sent.... Now I wait. This family is on the East Coast, so I think I will have another long night.

Thanks, D! I appreciate it.

My parents told me about being adopted at an early age. Big book with big letters and lots of pictures. For the most part, I have been fine with things. What I do admit, is that I don't like looking at myself in the mirror. If I look too long, I see a face staring back at me that looks like no one else in my current family. In that respect, I am alone, who am I really? I have no physical connection with anyone.

As I get older and technology advances, I am getting more curios. Time marches forward, people get older and pass on. I think at this point, it would be a shame to let the opportunity pass. My parents are all for me meeting my birth mother and brother.

I'll keep y'all posted.

Best of luck. My Nephew's wife was adopted from birth. She didn't want to have children until after she met her birth family. I think she was afraid to with kind of the same issues you are having. Now they are very close and she has six children of her own.

They were put in touch with each other through a third party asking each if they were okay with it before giving them the info to contact each other to avoid any legal issues since it was an anonymous unwed mother deal when she was born.

Thanks, Richard.

I just abide by the unwritten rule that says you should not directly contact birth parents. It's been known to destroy current families. Current husband has no idea that his wife put a child up for adoption. Kid shows up unannounced... Messy stuff.

I'm tempted, but I can't.

Ok guys..... Enough with the serious stuff....

Here is what is on the Horizon. I am still considering going to Reno in May to help with LeMons. Looking at driving the trust 'rolla out. Would be ~1500miles each way. Would come back the North route through SLC and Denver just to maximize scenery.

How insane is this? I'm planning plenty of time into the drive, don't really have much going on in may....

Did a drive from Billings, Mt. to St. George, Utah in one leg. It's rough, but at your age.... Fun.

Not sure how long each "leg" would be.... I have no problem stopping and taking a two hour nap in the car and continuing on...

Please do, we're all wishing for a good outcome here.
But not rushing it seems wise. That third party link between you and your family sounds like a good idea. One thing you have to ask yourself is, will you be able to accept it if you're the only one wanting to reconnect with your past??
We have our fingers crossed for ya buddy!

Sid, wouldn't it be cheaper to fly? 1500 miles each way is a long way each way.
If you plan to make it a road trip, then ok, but maybe that would be more fun if you had some companionship. No?

Would be around $100 more to fly... But I would be flying over country I have never seen.... ABQ is as far west as I have ever been...

I am looking for a companion, but finding someone to ride with me in a car for several days, to go pit crew for a $500 car is proving difficult.... Seems some think I am insane.

Night gents...

Oh and G, I'm not sure who I would take... The one guy that I could stand being in a vehicle with for that long has intersession classes... I can think of a lady friend or two, but I don't see them being up for it...

I've made lots of trips by myself from OKC to the east cast and back by myself. I did find myself singing non-existing made up songs in very bad tone to amuse myself at a couple of points.

Found Books On Tape very very valuable for these kind of trips.

And yes, to break the monotony I got off the beaten highway and took the scenic back roads several times. Each time though I had some interesting and potentially dangerous incidents with locals on the road. A couple of times backwoods locals in beat up old cars tried to run me off the road. I purposefully rear ended a Mustang full of teens, then speed off just as they all got out of the car and headed for mine. They were swerving so I couldn't pass and trying to force me off the road. Didn't hit them hard enough to do any damage to my car. They tried to pile back in and chase, but my 914 on two-lane twisty highways was too fast for them.
