big learning curve for me on this camera. i always had regular SLR's, and then when i went to digital, i just used my Elph. yes, it's going to end up being another hobby to throw money at...

Well the desert has its good points, but you're still in the desert. If you lived on the coast you might get to like it in CA.

There are some laws that are a real drag, and there are some crazy people here, but I am sure there are crazy rules and people pretty much everywhere. I can tolerate it for the rewards of the landscape and climate.

So Cal is way crowded, though. I wouldn't want to live any further south than about Woodland Hills.

There are some things I have experienced which don't seem like such a big deal at the time but looking back on them now and thinking about the future I realize were pretty cool to be able to experience. And they would not have happened outside California. My life has been shaped by it. I would be a very different person had I grown up in Oklahoma (nothing against OK).

Shouldn't be that much of a learning curve. The basic settings are the same for a SLR or DSLR. Aperture, shutter speed, ISO. I am almost always on manual mode with my Nikon D2X. I use Photoshop, so most corrections happen there. I also shoot in RAW almost exclusively.

I see no difference between Encino and Woodland Hills. Things get crowded at Sherman Oaks.

I am just the opposite

My philosophy is to get the image right in the camera and do as little post-processing as possible. Usually none. Sometimes a crop. I shoot all .jpg

don't get me wrong, california has lots to offer. ive been around the world a couple times now, and lived throughout the US. you'd be surprised at what other places in the US have to offer. that's one of my biggest complaints about california people...the general view of california centricism. cali has so much to offer, that people here tend to overlook the rest of the country. it's a double edged sword.

little things irritate me about this state. gun laws. the general disregarding of personal freedoms. my insurance costs. vehicle registration costs. healthcare costs. food costs. etc, etc. Real estate is insanely overpriced out here (and yes, I'm taking in account the "down" market)

just the menu's and such. there are lots of "auto" functions that take the place of standard manual settings. the video function on this thing is pretty crazy, too

I suppose Encino is alright, the hilly area over by Crespi at least.

I still prefer to be on the other side of Calabassas.

More and more I like the SLO area.

That's okay for web, but not wall art.

New Zealand is a great place, too. Australia was very pleasant, but New Zealand seemed to have more of the stuff I am into. The Reef was amazing, though. And the Blue Ridge Mountains.

I suppose in the beginning. Once they are set, it's a forget thing. No video on the D2x, so I don't have to worry about that.

Okay, you would. You won't sell in a gallery. Ansel Adams did a lot of post processing. His images are not straight out of the camera.

Motorsports photography has a small, mostly self-absorbed market. But hey, I'm one of those guys that buys pictures of my car.
