I had a parcel delivered by UPS today yesterday lunchtime that I bought two days before, came from SOCAL, so that's not bad.

We only purchased the Tajine last week. I downloaded a bundle of recipes to get an idea of how/what to do then did my usual and made it up as I went along. The end result is in the what's for dinner thread. It was good and we're already planning to put another together for Sunday when the kids come over. It's real easy, just like a crockpot.

Moroccan. Planning to do a chicken one on Sunday and I'd like to use some preserved lemons if I can find some. The spice mix za'atar has been difficult to get, but I've managed to find some that's very tasty.

Today I also used turmeric, cayenne pepper, coriander, parsley and saffron, along with chili and garlic. The za'atar I found has a slight lemon bent to it and gave it a nice flavour. Along with the lamb (cubed) and chick peas was pumpkin and tomatoes. The chick peas went in right at the end (I was lazy and used canned ones as dried ones need to be soaked overnight). It was a real low flame on the stove, because when you put the lid on to some degree it acts like a pressure vessel (Set the heat to limit the loss of liquid that bubbles out the sides). Cooking time was about 50min.

I must say that I was very worried shipping Marilyn from Utah, and as the weather had gone to poop and it was blizzarding and stuff in the centre of the USA on her way over I was wondering how she would go, but they were fantastic, an 83 ft truck and trailer came down my street with all these cars on it, I was just fascinated how they get them on and off, and I was so worried about how she would get back off without being damaged, as she was on the bottom immediately behind the cabin, but she was fine.

But a very scary thing seeing your poor little pristine car in the middle of such a huge truck and all that steel.

Before shipping I talked to a lot of shipping brokers. Found most shipping companies are just that brokers for the free lance trucks like on Shipping Wars. I was going to use U Ship It where you can save a little money by being your own broker, but learned the advantage of having a broker is the insurance of having someone go to bat for you if there is damage. Ended up very happy with both the broker and the shipper.

On the flip side, the guy that bought my Black 951 found the cheapest shipper he could. The car hauler that showed up was a real piece of junk and the driver was a mexican that spoke zero english. He damaged the air dam, front clip and running lights just trying to get the car on the hauler. Good thing I took before pictures.

There were other language problems too. The car would run, but had a damaged head gasket so could only run short periods to keep from over heating. Just long enough to pull up on the truck. The driver kept trying to leave the car idling, instead of killing it and restarting to jockeying with the hauler ramps.

One of the reasons I am attempting to try to learn Spanish. So I can at least have a shot at communicating with the laborers.

Azzy, it is fascinating to see a car hauler do his job. I am sure Pete has seen it a million times. I went to a local trucking company to pick up a crate and watched a driver back his trailer in between two other trailers with just inches to spare. He had to start from a awkward position. It was obvious he was a experienced pro. The other cool thing was watching the fork lift driver. The crate I picked up was to be loaded in the back of a borrowed pickup. The forklift driver was flying along, turned the corner and dropped the very crate dead square in the middle of the pickup bed right over the axle and the forklift driver was gone in a flash. It was again obvious he was a experienced forklift driver being paid by the load and not by the hour.

Every three years we ship our aerial camera back to the US service center to be cleaned and lubed. The camera and lens are 350 lbs in the boxes.




As you can see it fills up the back of my Elky. We have to strap them to pallets. If you call Fed-X they want well over a grand to ship them. Most trucking companies want a ton of money. There is one guy that is a broker. He ships camera systems all the time. He only charges 400 bucks to get them to Danbury CT.

OK, I just talked to the transport company and they will absolutely pick the garage queen by next Thursday. I'll find out the exact time for the pickup sometime on Monday afternoon. I at least can enjoy the weekend without worrying about that.

Just got the insurance renewal for Marilyn for 30 April, still $1,100 for six months so went to the PCA website to see if they have an insurer favoured on their site. Lelandwest is their insurer link so did a quote it came back for a daily driver, unlimited miles, agreed value of 20K (might up that) as a little over $430, for 12 months!!!!

Holy *****! know where I am going...
