Posting this via Windows XP running in Virtual box in my Mac. Once I got all the install details ironed out it works great! I don't need windows very often, but this was a good test bed and gives me an option for the few times I need windoze.

Got both XP and 7 under VMware Fusion on my Laptop. Each uses about 40gig of drive space. Do Outlook help desk and tweak GTS tune. Like Fusion cause don't need no reboot to run winders.

We use town car limos all the time out here. Much easier than the shuttles and more personable.

Check out Oracle Virtual Box. Free and I can switch back and forth at will, as well as drag and drop files!

I remember hacking VMware when it was new and free. It was designed to run under Redhat Linux at the time and therefore had different paths and some other file issues. I was running Slackware and still do to this day. It was agood feeling once I was able to get it to run under SW.

I'm really just wanting it so I won't need a new laptop to run the Durametric tool for the newer Porsches. I'm starting to shop for a 986, and that will let me see lots of good info before and after the sale...

Monday is done and over.

My wifes car is 5 years old and she has almost 24,000 miles. It still has the original tires. They are pretty much worn down to the wear bar, and they are 5 years old. I ordered a set of tires from Tire Rack and they arrived yesterday. I have a set of Pirelli P7s for her car on the floor here at the office.



I remember when P7s were THE hot autocross tire for all the hotshoes. I think 911 Turbos came from the factory with them.

Now I "get" to haul them to the tire shop and I will have to drive her car to work and get it over to the tire shop. She will get the great honor of driving my El Camino.

just ordered tires for my Jeep on friday. Jeep is coming up on 5 years and I have 55,000 miles on the original tires for that. I am starting to slide in the rain.

I found some new rear tires for my 911. They are the same tires that are on there now. For some reason the rears seem to wear out faster than the fronts.

I don't need new rear tires just yet but I will put them on before going to California next summer.

Porsches wear rear tires twice as fast as the fronts due to the suspension geometry of the rear suspension. As the car is lowered the tires the toe goes positive. As it is raised the toe goes negative. The wear could be called toe scrub. Every time you accelerate or brake the weight transfer and front to rear sway of the car changes the rear toe. On my 944 Turbo this was so pronounced that the car would dolphin (steer left then right) under extreme acceleration as the left or right tire got more traction.

The 928 was the first production car application of the Weissach rear suspension design to take full advantage of this toe change and added side loading toe change to provide rear wheel steering in higher G turns.

My rears tire wear is mostly from sliding around and hanging out the rear end at the autocross. I can change the tire pressure to get it more neutral but that is not as much fun.

I used to work at a professional photolab with a lot of darkrooms. The first rule of a photolab is never open a door unless you are willing to bet your next paycheck there is no light sensitive material out that will get fogged. More than a few employees would go into their darkroom and not come out for a long time. One guy was the worst. If you were trying to find out where he was go bang on his darkroom door and make him come out. Often we saw the imprint of the carpet on his face from sleeping on the floor. He did not last for long.
