Okay so here's the way it works in very simple terms...

The earth warms, ice melts, sea level rises. Sea level rising causes continental plates to move which not only causes earthquakes but makes volcanos go off. Volcanic ash clouds block the sun which cools earth.

So glad to live where ice melting, sea level rising, or plate tectonics don't effect my life much.

Another consideration is the Mississippi river basin. The watershed area run off is more than can be moved through the delta without flooding. To keep New Orleans from flooding the corp of engineers basically must decide which area of the watershed gets flooded. Then they try to call it a natural disaster.

I can not imagine living in an area where a bomb shelter from mother nature is a normal thing, although I do know mother nature can be a wicked, cold hearted beiotch. I hope you never need it Glen (or anybody else)

Mt Ranier?

I thought the resultant lahar was supposed to bury everything from the volcano all the way to Puget Sound, including Tacoma and a lot of southern Seattle.

Just when you find something good the price has to go out of sight. I have a pair of engineers boots that I wear to work and I love them, they are like a second skin and have been that way since day one. They were only $80 when I bought them a few years ago, made by Dingo, the only real boot that fits my flipper feet well. The soles are getting kind of thin but the uppers are still rock solid so I was thinking about just having them resoled but for $80 it would be better to just get another pair and keep the older ones for just relaxing or working around here, or leaving in someones rear end.
Sticker shock set in as I grabbed a pair last night and they were almost $170. Holy inflation batman, I will just re sole the old friends.

Just be happy you can still get them. Tried to find another pair of boots I like and they just don't make em any more.

Whenever they have something really good that gets popular, they quit making it. Example: Arby's Breakfast Croissants from the 80's. They still got good pie.

My Vans have been around over 40 years. Only thing that has changed is price and quality (downhill ever since they farmed the production to China).

Anyone else notice that shoes from China seem to have laces that are way too long. I think it's a conspiracy to trip up us lazy fat Americans.

St Helens is south of here. In the 80's when she blew her top you might have been able to see the ash ploom from the roof.

When I lived in Portland, we would see Mt. St. Helens puff up ash plumes every so often. But it was Mt. Hood that dominated the skyline. No matter where you were in the city , you could look up and see Mt. Hood.

I bought the same Reebok walking shoes for years. I would buy two pair at a time. I wear a 10 EE in a sneaker and triple E in dress shoes. The don't make the Reeboks anymore in the wide sizes. By the time I lace up my shoes there is never enough laces to tie them. I have to skip the top holes or I can't tie my shoes. I never have long laces. The are always short.
