Steve,

Are you planning on playing around at Pacific Junction? I miss living 30 mins from a really nice race track. I second everyone else here as far as car choices.

There was a guy with a Ford Probe smoking people at that track last time I was there.

If you don't mind minor cosmetic issues, I've seen many 951s for $5k or less.

I've kind of decided against the kit car - after emailing back and forth with England, it doesn't sound like I would fit in the thing, as well as some of the crash protection issues the forum has raised.

So, I think I'm down to getting a stripped out 914 with a hot rod engine, or trying to upgrade the Boxster to a 3.4. I'm leaning towards the second option.

A Miata is not a bad choice, but I don't fit in them so well. Not too big on 944s - I know they are good cars, but I like the mid-engine thing a little better.

Yes, it's nice living 20 miles from a racetrack - I've been down a few times this year already.

As an aside, we just had some Porsche members drive three tracks in three states in one day - they started out at Mid America Motorplex in Iowa, then to MPH in Hastings, NE (about a two hour drive from Omaha), then to HPT in Topeka. As far as we know, no other group has done three tracks in three states in one day. It's nice having so many good tracks close.
