The eco-nannies at the AQMD will not issue the necessary permits to allow the Forest Service to make controlled burns, so when it does burn, we get loss of life, property, and lungs.

Fact is the brush that's fueling the Station Fire is a Forestry issue. Local FD went up there and told them to clear it out years ago. But they had to study it, they had to have an environmental impact debate, then they conveniently forgot about it.
Conversely in Malibu the fine for not clearing brush and in place planting succulents can be up to $50,000 depending on the size of the threatened structure. Have you noticed Malibu isn't burning this time around?

And by extension it's like those butt-heads that want to sue the state of Florida or any other coastal state when some swimmer gets chomped on by a shark? People, like tha man said, "Mother Nature is in Charge!"

Man, that petite syrah threat worked pretty well. Next time I'm a biker bar, I'm going to have to remember that one.

the real fact is that these areas are fire-prone ecosystems. period.
they are going to burn no matter what - all the plants there are adapted for, and most REQUIRE fire to breed. SoCal needs Fire Zoning but does not have it (or nearly so) - last year one of the fire chiefs said that the #1 thing to do was to zone the whole area for fires. you can "mow"; drag chains; spray with herbicides; whatever and it will only delay the fires (which allows more fuel to build up and make the eventual fire worse). the area probably needs more compact development which makes it easier and cheaper to defend against fires - the most rie-prone or indefensible areas could become neighborhood or regional parks - but as some comment above show - many there do not want that. they want big back yards. so if your backyard fills up with flames... that is the inevitable end result of living in a Mediterranean climate ecosystem bon appetit! |

The air pollution control board would not issue the burn permit to the forest service in the winter (when the fire wouldn't have gotten out of control) because of the inversion layers that occur here in the winter. So that forced them to do a controlled burn in the height of the fire season. Now the air is 1000X worse than it would have been had the forest service been able to burn the overgrowth when they wanted to.

Mine, too... the only way it could've been any funnier is if he'd said he was "all full of White Zinfandel..."

I was prepared to offer up my best defense as to why I choose to live where I do then it struck me.....I don't give a flying f**k what you think about where or why I live where I do. And if you're not OK with that then go f**k yourself after all I'm stone cold sober.

I'll have to remember to come back to Mr. HardDrive after that Seattle mega-quake hits. It's gonna be a monster. And then I can criticize him for choosing to live there. Can, but won't.
