Mary Travers Died
Man, this sucks. I play primarily acoustic and she was an integral part of the folk music mainstream. Who, as a kid, hasn't jammed to 'Puff the Magic Dragon" or "Blowin' in the Wind" and even JD's "Leavin' on a Jet Plane". RIP Mary, your voice can rise above the angels.http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/music/2009/09/16/2009-09-16_mary_travers_of_peter_paul_and_mary_dead.html

RIP Mary Travers A timeless song. My wife just told me she would bump into her at the hairdresser periodically. Last edited by widgeon13; 09-17-2009 at 04:11 AM.. |

Any of us 'at that age' remember the age of PP&M. Was a great time for music, both acoustic and otherwise.
Just seems like there aren't any great songs like those anymore that are new and don't involve having your shorts down to your knees. |

My older sister was a big PP&M fan and I still love their Harmony's. The Music is Timeless
Here's one that showcases Mary's talents more, although they weren't as sharp as they used to be. RIP Mary, and thanks for the memories.

My wife & I actually attended the "Peter & Paul" concert at the Community Theater in Morristown NJ this summer. This was originally scheduled to be a P, P & M concert last year, but Mary's health prevented it. It thus had been rescheduled several times since last year, and Peter also did a free solo concert for ticket holders last winter, which we also attended.
In the recent concert, Peter & Noel (Paul's real name) admitted that Mary would never be up to touring again, and that this concert was the first by the "new" group "Peter & Paul (with memories of Mary)". I've never been a "folkie", but the hearing in person Peter express his combination of hope & sadness for Mary, and seeing the impact on the audience, makes this news a bit more personal for me. |
