Ruger 556...anybody have one?
Have to admit, I've been a Ruger fan for decades...mainly because their stuff works. Here's a link to a review:

Given the recent SR9 and LCP fiascos, I'm perfectly happy to look elsewhere for an AR.
Ruger does make nice revolvers and the Model 1 is legendary, of course.

I wouldn't mind it if someone gave me one of those Rugers.

Ruger seems to be the American firearms manufacturer of my lifetime. Where the others have sat on their collective laurels - or more like asses - continuing to try to peddle their 50-100 year old designs, Ruger stands alone as the one that has continued to improve their existing lines and venture forth into new ones as well.
It strikes me that the majority of firearms I've purchased in the last decade, "using" firearms (as opposed to purty wall-hangers) have been Rugers. Doesn't hurt that I'm a single shot and single action man, but even my "other" guns have been predominantly Ruger, save for Marlin lever guns. I've been very impressed with Ruger quality of late. Granted, fit and finish will never be Smith, Colt, or pre-'64 Winchester quality, but these are functional, using firearms. In light of that, I would hesitate to buy the Ruger if I were into those kinds of guns.

Nothing special about that gun. Just another Stoner design with a piston kit on it. I applaud Ruger for getting into a market that is fast becoming mainstream, but that's the end of it. The more commercial the AR platform gets the better for AR owner. But at an MSRP of $1995. Forget it....and it's a piston AR. Ruger would have done better to come out with a DI AR with a high quality barrel.
