I've got one now. She's 2 1/2 and has become sick. She's lost 14# and been to three Vets.Went back to the Vet this morning for more tests.Just wondered if anyone else had any problems with his dogs. I did google him and only found one problem that was back in 1999.

How can you blame a breeder for a problem with a 2 and a half year old dog? It's not a Honda!

Her energy level is still ok as she now has a 6 1/2 mth puppy keeping her busy. She is to the point now that she is begging for food all the time. The stool is runny and soft. The first Vet said she didn't have Giardia and the second vet said she did so we treated her for that and she still has the loose stool so now they are checking for pancreatic insufficiiency's and an all around blood work up. This all started when I had to put my 14 1/2 year old down because her hips gave out. I thought she was lonely so I got the pup but things haven't changed. I also changed her food at the same time and thought it may be that but it's not. Also she started chewing everything up and she also got a three year rabies shot which I for got to ask about but will.

I'm not sure, but see if your shepherd can use medicine that contains ivermectin. It can make some breeds very ill, (i thought Shepard were one of the breeds).
Ivermectin is the main ingredient to most dog medicines for pests (heart guard, etc).

i know dogs get attached.. when my dad would leave for a couple of days my dog wouldnt drink or eat food until he got back...not even eating steak... nothing made him happy even playing fetch.. i bet german shepherds are the same way.. and she got attached to your other dog... i hope that its nothing serious... dont think its a breeder problem though.. thats 2 years ago...

I don't blame anything on the breeder. I did my researsh before I BOUGHT THE DOG. bUT **** HAPPENS. If he breeds with someone who isn't up front anything can happen thats why I ASKED. He is a very good dog breeder. To anyone interested in german shepherds just google him and you will see.

I don't have anything to add other than I hope your dog gets better.
I have a 9 year old GS that was diagnosed with Lymphoma in the Spring. We treated it, and he is currently in remission. We also have an 8 month female GS puppy and an older pug. I love my dogs. Bill |

My dog went totally blind about two years ago. I figure it's the pound's fault

Sammy, until you said that I wasn't going to say anything but since I started looking everything up on the net I see how it can happen. I've read some things that would make you sick, what some of these people who board your pets do to them including some who went to pick up there pet only to find out that it died while you paid to keep it there while you were gone.

I've had this dog for about 7 years (when we got him from the pound), he went blind two years ago or so.
He caught some sort of canine virus that took his eyesight. It's not that rare. Just one of those things. |

UP DATE- I now have three german shepherds. Turns out that she has EPI (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency) . It's where the pancreas dies off and they can't digest the food so they have diarea all the time. I read up on it and found a supplies who sells the medicine bulk so it not bad on price compared to what it costs from a vet.
She is still with me today at I think 10year's now(My how time flies) Of all three dogs she has the most energy. This is effecting all breads now. usually at age 2 or 3. read up on it. I think cats are affected too SEE THIS LINK EPI4dogs.com |
