Jesus, what a fuchin horrible way to die! Slow and torturous.

I ice climb and mountain climb. I sure dont want to freeze to death or have a falling chunk of ice crush me.
I scuba dive. Dont want to run out of air inside a wreck and croak. I've had that happen. ( just not the croaking part....) Without a doubt, the most terrifiying moment of my life.

I love firefighting, and sure as hell dont want to burn to death!


Dave,that cave diving is the one aspect of diving I would never do. I give you guys alot of credit. Ive done plenty of penetrations on wrecks, but something about the cave stuff that says no way!

I haven't, but I'd love to sky dive, rock climb, spelunk, etc.... I'm all for living.

But there are certain points where my will to live kicks in. Having to wriggle through a hole that doesn't allow me any movement other than forward or backwards (well, other than that ONE hole) is one of those things that I don't think I'd be willing to do.

There is a fine line between excitement and stupidity for some folks.

It seems that more frequently today, stupidity is winning out.

i am not a fan of tight spaces...but wouldnt consider myself phobic of tight spaces. when i was in vietnam, it thought it would be cool to go thru one of the VC tunnels. they had some "widened" for tourist, and off i went. i was following some chick. she started to panic, and telling people to "keep it moving". people were pausing for photos and junk. her panic was contagious. amazing. i wanted to biittch slap her ass.

now the non-tourist modified tunnels? holy krap!...the openings were the size of a sheet of notebook paper. the tunnels were one-way. if you wanted to turn around, you had to take a dead end turn and back around...those VC were some tiny, tough guys. i stuck my head in a regular tunnel, and almost had to scream.

I think I do have a bit of claustrophobia. Some of the descriptions here make me feel anxious.

you wouldnt catch me down any of those caves but I dont think it should be cemented or otherwise closed up. People take risks and it should be up to them to decide if it is a tolerable risk. The person who got stuck seems to be an expeienced caver (spelunker?) and should have or most likely did know the risks. He made a bad decision and paid dearly, others have probably gone the same route and made it through. The decision to go in should be made by the individual and not by individuals looking to make the world "safer".

Everyone on this board would be up in arms and carrying pitch forks ready to riot if all cars were limited to 60mph. We as car enthusiasts wouldnt allow that and choose to drive our cars the way we feel they should be driven (wether on the street or track) Pouring cement in a cave to a caver is probably the same as someone neutering your car to 60mph.

Couple of way cool photo shots of my last cavern diving in Akumal Mexico in flooded caves called Cenotes.

Stellar jaw dropping beautiful. Surreal.

And yeah, our deepest dive was 145 feet, so you have to have your sheet together. I'm a scuba instructor, my wife, and a WAY talented dive guide so it was just the three of us.

enjoy the pics, shot with a 165 degree wide angle lens.........cool to see a small fish just suspended "mid-air" in the photos, with no silt, Viz went on forever..........

Basically a Cenote is a millions of years old dry cave, that 10-12,000 years ago sea level was 200 foot lower than it is now, the Ice age melted and the water rose, to todays level so these are freshwater caves, but you do run into a Halocline occassionally of salt water laying below the fresh water on top of it. Cool stuff to dive in.
