I signed up as well. I've done it twice before as well as the Triple Bypass. The Death Ride is my favorite. We'll see if I can rehabilitate from my recent wrist surgery in time to get in shape.

Tried to do it this past year but personal issues got in the way of training hard enough. I contemplated going anyway but figured it wasn't worth torturing myself when I had doubts as to my ability. Now that I've got (most) of the other personal issues in my life settled (like moving, family, new job, etc.) I can start refocusing my efforts onto training, which is nice.

Hope to run into some of you guys up there!
What about doing the Cape Cod (Boston to Provincetown) MS-150?

Yeah but it starts out downhill - LOL!

You know what guys? I think this is going to be fun. When it gets closer, we should all herd together and camp or at least wear a pelican badge on the back of the helmets so we can recognize each other!

Wait - maybe a sticker is a better idea - it weighs less...

Maybe. I don't really have time to do fundraising though. A lot of those events are great (and for good causes) but they require you to raise a lot of sponsor dough, which I know for a fact I suck at doing and I'll have a hard time with.

As far as a ride goes, I'd love to. I have relatives who live down on the Cape so I'm sure I'll be doing a lot of training rides down that way when the weather gets a bit nicer anyway. Gorgeous places to ride - the scenery and terrain is a lot more varied and dynamic than people would initially think - it's a really great place to ride around.

P-town will give you a case of the ghey though. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I thought they changed the name when someone actually did die.

I believe you're right... A few years ago i remember something about this - a gentleman died on a fast descent. Changed the name to something like "Alpine Challenge" or similar (can't recall the name). But I notice that "Death Ride" is trademarked.

I don't believe any disrespect was meant by "death ride" after someone actually died in it. Let's face it, we risk dying every day when we ride our bikes. Risks from single bike crashes, tangling up with a car, a deer bounds into the road, etc.

Personally, I always picked up a Grateful Dead vibe from the Death Ride name.

I don't think so either, the organizers apparently felt it was in bad taste.

I don't know of anyone who refers to it by anything other than death ride though.

I'm not a biker, but I only live 20 mi. from Markleeville in Minden. Maybe we can have a beer in Wolfcreek during the event.

Got my registration packet but honestly I've not been training very much - just too busy, so I'm rethinking my plans to go out there and do it.

If anyone's interested, let me know. I might do it next year instead.

If you decide not to go, my training partner does not have a ticket so he would be willing to buy yours.

I'll let you know. I need to see where I am with my training this time next month. If I can't do 80-90 miles on moderately hilly terrain fairly comfortably I'm probably going to pass on this year and he's welcome to buy my ticket.

Going out there to do it is no small expense for me - plane ticket, transporting bike, gear, place to stay, etc. It's about a grand give or take, so I want to be sure I can finish. If I blow all that money and bonk I'll be pretty irritated at myself.

I'll let ya know.

OK - we're HERE!!! Steve, Ryan (son) and the hound doggie. Pulled the trailer down and staying in a place called Meadowcliff in Coleville. This is a pretty neat little RV park. Heated pool, full hookups, very nice amenities. Going to ditch Steve and Ryan tomorrow, take the truck to the starting line very early and do as many of these big hills as I can!

Gearing - taking the 'cross bike with slicks, 700c wheels, MTB gears front and rear and big assed disc brakes. Going to dig on those for the downhills.

By the way, if anyone is on their way, just note that they are predicting T-storms tomorrow afternoon. Might bring a light rain jacket (or at least a Hefty garbage bag) for wet downhills.

angela
