Love the games, typically not the leagues/institutionalization of them.
The age of free agency has really screwed things up. There's little (if any) team loyalty anymore which makes it increasingly hard to root for whatever scabs are filling a particular uniform this year. It's an opiate for the masses - little more. But it is fun to "get dumb" and enjoy once in a while in a provincial sort of way. Back in the days of ancient Greece, I'm sure it meant a lot more to see one city-state's athletes competing against a rival's (hence the original olympic games, etc.) Nowadays that concept has been contorted by modern business to such a point as to be virtually meaningless. Hell, even international competition (including the Olympics) is starting to "go scab" by allowing countries to offer citizenship to "free agent" athletes. A lot of countries even offer athletes nice incentives to become citizens of that country (even though they might never have set foot in it) just to play for them in the games. Sport as we know it is due for a big crash soon from these sorts of corrosive elements that destroy the underlying spirit of competitiveness.
