Luis, I have a small University for Spoiled Children sticker in the back window of my 911. If I went graduated from there 10 years ago, does that make it OK?

Funny, I remember an interview with Carol few years back where he said he was having the most fun in his life and would never go back the the NFL rat race.

They know the "jig is up." Their cheating, paying off of player through sports agents, etc. is over. With the recruiting advantage of overwhelming paid off talent, he's not ever going to win a National Championship again, and he knows it. Even when he had NFL starting level QBs, receivers, key line people, all on the field at the same time, he only mustered one BCS National Championship. No coach in college has done less with that level of players. Plus, leaving will take the heat off of further investigations. |

Take a trip to knoxville sometime. Big T's in the back of every SUV window. Bit orange flags with white Ts on them hanging from every third front porch. Half the people in town wearing orange T shirts. Strangers walking up and asking, "do you think we'll do it this Saturday"? And then wondering in amazement when it is explained to them that they are not part of the team, they are only spectators. People who attended USC are proud of that fact and understandably so. They are also fans. Having a license plate holder that says USC Trojans is called supporting the school, the institution, the teams. It also lets successful people know they have something in common. It's a whole lot less obnoxious than fans pretending they are part of the team, or people making tard-like hand signals to resemble part of an big dumb animal (ironic), or 60,000 tards doing a chopping motion and yelling a ridiculously obnoxious chant over and over and over all game long. |

Do not get me wrong, I think it is great to be proud of your affiliations and achievements.
It is just that it is "over the top" with some attendees or some schools. I have a friend who started a physical therapy clinic and he went to SC. He hired an excellent therapist from UCLA (who had a UCLA license plate frame). The next day an SC doctor in his building came to him and told him he should not have hired a UCLA person because SC people need to stick together. He even hinted that he should fire him. I am sure most would agree this is too much. I know a lot of towns (e.g. Tucson) where college fans associate themselves with schools that they never attended, but it just seems odd to me.

Of course..;-) What would be odd to me if your garage were repainted yellow and garnet and you constantly played the USC fight song!

As an aside, Trojans have their own 'tard habits such as forming the victory "V" with the index and middle fingers. I've lived in Oregon and Massachusetts. And if I'm wearing an 'SC hat or sweatshirt (though never at the same time--egads!) and pass by a fellow alum in those far-from-LA locales, said fellow alum will casually say "Fight On" while walking by. No big to-do. Just a nod of the head and we pass. My wife (not an 'SC grad) was walking with me once and commented: What are you, in some sort of cult?

I guess Mike Riley of Oregon State didn't...from all reports I've heard, he's staying as the head coach of the Beavers.

USC is in a bad spot right now. The b-ball & f-ball programs are in some serious NCAA trouble, plus the school itself is in flux as the president resigned and a new one is coming in. They have no idea what to do about the football program. AD, Mike Garrett, IMO, should update his resume. I wouldn't mind seeing that guy hit the bricks as well.

Don't know if Riley's decision had as much to do with USC's problems as it did his roots. He's a Corvallis kid, played high school ball there...has a family that loves living there...yeah, roots. He's making a low salary of around $1 million per year, but that's enough to live very comfortably in these parts...

Watch...in the coming weeks, I bet USC is going to be regarded as toxic by the sporting world. Too bad, but hey, that's what happens when a coach (or in this case, both coaches - Floyd and Carroll) let their players get away from them.
