The gas filler is relocated, bigger wheels and arches, no rear bumper. 928 disguised. |
Whatever the running gear and a few details, it's hard to dispute that it's the same body, no?

Okay, the thing in the first photo is "V3" which was an Audi 100 coupe modified to test the engine and gearbox of the 928. There were other test mules:
V1 was a Mercedes 350SL that was used to test the transaxle concept. V2 was an Opel Admiral used for suspension testing. It had steerable rear wheels, controlled by an engineer sitting on the rear parcel shelf and using a steering wheel in the left rear seating area. V4 was similar to V3. The main difference was, instead of adding fender flares to widen the body to accomodate the wider track of the 928, they widened the entire body by a little over 4 inches. The canvas bodied test vehicle in post #21 is "Munga" which was used for engine testing. The various test mules have been discussed in a number of books.
