I've seen those wheels before, just can't remember where.

The wheels look like the volvo turbo to me.

For those who didn't think the Cayenne was outdoorsy enough.

It's a test mule for the 928.

lol!

928 did indeed roll as an Audi 100 coupe for a while as a chassis prototype.
There is no real way of telling that it is *not* an Audi on that pic though. Even the rims are Ausi.

I think George is correct.

The gas filler is relocated, bigger wheels and arches, no rear bumper.

928 disguised.

Whatever the running gear and a few details, it's hard to dispute that it's the same body, no?

So, what is it?

Sapporo Guy 01-30-2010 10:46 AM

I'd say, just a tad shy of 20 with a A-B cup.
Not enough pixels to confirm a C :)

Alfa GTV?

Indeed it is (according to whatever book I found it in and have now forgotten the title of...). Hence the sniper irony.

IIRC, it was called "Angus"

very odd that the resemblance to other cars is so close - maybe they were based off the same Italian design (?)

Okay, the thing in the first photo is "V3" which was an Audi 100 coupe modified to test the engine and gearbox of the 928. There were other test mules:

V1 was a Mercedes 350SL that was used to test the transaxle concept.

V2 was an Opel Admiral used for suspension testing. It had steerable rear wheels, controlled by an engineer sitting on the rear parcel shelf and using a steering wheel in the left rear seating area.

V4 was similar to V3. The main difference was, instead of adding fender flares to widen the body to accomodate the wider track of the 928, they widened the entire body by a little over 4 inches.

The canvas bodied test vehicle in post #21 is "Munga" which was used for engine testing.

The various test mules have been discussed in a number of books. The best description can be found in Project 928, by Juilius Weitmann and Rico Steinemann.
