Favorite Car Mags

I used to subscribe to quite a few... R&T, Car and Driver, Excellence, CAR (UK), Evo, Forza, Cavallino, Vintage Motorsport, Octane, plus I get Pano and Velocity from PCA and POC respectively, SCM...

I lost interest in the new F-cars, so I dropped the F-mags... but that's a matter of taste.

For many of the other mags of general/Porsche interest, I found I barely looked at them. There is also quite a bit of redundancy...

So, in the spirit of 'less is more' I've whittled down to CAR (UK), which has great all-around coverage, and Vintage Motorsport, which is kind of unique with good variety... debating on Excellence; I like the older customs/build-outs but I'm not much into the tuning/new car pieces... SCM is going (nice to keep up with trends but the writing is getting tired...)

What do other Pelicans like??? Am I missing out on any great publications?

I get excellence, Pano, R&T, Car and driver, and now Autoweek(free sub)....

I will only continue to pay for excellence... I wouldn't pay extra for Pano...

I used to get RACER (as the photography was phenomenal) and Motorcyclist. I still stick with R&T and excellence. As I get older, I find less time for mags.

I had Road & Track for many years but let it go when I realized that Peter Egan was the only reason I still had it. So, I let it go and just buy the Egan books instead.

Currently: Autombile, Excellence, Roundel, Panorama (I'm thinking of keeping the membership but telling them to stop sending me the magazine).

My favorite for the last few years: Hemmings Sports and Exotic. I hope it doesn't change. I dropped Sports Car Market after that magazine shifted focus.

I used to subscribe to several, but I don't have time to read them all. I still get Road and Track.

If I had more time, I'd get Motorsport, Octane, Excellence, and R&T. I'd probably pick up the occasional Grassroots Motorsports, Vintage Motorsports, Evo, Top Gear, and whatever else strikes my fancy that's sitting on the shelf.

My main interests are sports cars and classic sports cars.

I let them all lapse except 'Hemmings Sport and Exotic Cars'.

Great mix of historic (great articles on pioneers in all aspects of cars...the recent piece of Michelin was terrific), affordable cars, new and tech.

Very good writing and photography.

Excellence, C&D, Autoweek, The Rodder's Journal and a little 'zine called Church, which is nothing but pictures of hot rods, it comes out when the publisher/writer wants it to.

Recent lapses include Racer and R&T. Occasional news stand buys include F1 (British), Car and the Cycle mags.

The only magazines I keep are Excellence and The Rodders Journal.

I used to go to B&N or Borders each month and buy several mags. I read each several times but man, was I spending a lot of money on them!

I used to be religious about Car (UK), but there seems to have been a deliberate "dumbing down" of standards in recent years. A review can be descriptive and accurate without resorting to "crap' and "5hit." (Of course, I was raised on LKJ Setright.)

Transferred my allegiance to "Octane' (UK). Great mag, well worth the cost.

CarCraft always was fun. I don't read magazines any more since the interwebs are full of cool stuff.

This is true George, but you need magazines for the bathroom.

Best,

Grassroots Motorsports FTW!

I also like Racecar Engineering (and I'm not an engineer), and most of the British stuff like Classic and Sports Car, Practical Classics, and Top Gear. My mother gave me a subscription to one called Corvette Fever, which is actually pretty decent.

I subscribe to a lot of car mags -- R&T, C&D, AutoWeek, Excellence, Automobile & Vintage Motorsports. VM is by far my favorite. Panorama is probably my least favorite.

I really enjoy Peter Egan's "stuff" in R&T.

AutoWeek....I got the free subscription from Ford.

I had forgotten how depressing reading about some of the cars is.

C&D and Automobile. Along with the two airplane magazines I get I typically have a few month backlog. If I had more time I'd get Car and Top Gear.
