You know, your words ring true, at least to me. I have lost the passion to a degree. Haven't done a DE in 2 years. Maybe drive my 911 500-1000mi/yr. The thought of doing any work on it doesn't do anything for me. I haven't worked on it for a few years. Still, I won't sell it. I have more into upgrades on the car then what I paid for it. I would take such a bath selling it that what ever I made off of it would just sicken me. And most are right here, I would regret selling this car for the rest of my life.

A 996 might be the answer, but that would put pressure I don't want on our budget.

Have you looked at 996 prices lately? A NICE one can be had for 30k....

30k? there was a nice one owner 99 in the memphis paper a while back for 19500.00, it had 120k on it but they advertised it as a nice car, very clean. and it was black. I almost went and looked at it.

Another vote for an E46 330i. Less than $10k will buy you a nice one. Just as quick and comfy as the new one, and you can keep the 911 with the same cash outlay.

I saw one recently with about 70K miles for less than 20K which nobody want which really prompted me to investigate. They're just plain looking IMO with those narrow rear fenders. But you get a modern 911.

I can comment on this from first hand experience. I sold my 85 carrera a few years back and bought an e46 330i to replace it for family duty. At first I didn't miss the 911 much and loved the feel of the bmw. It drives well, has nice power and has been reliable (knock on wood)...

But....(wait for it)... I am missing my old 911. If I were to do it again I would never sell the 911. I would wait to afford two cars one for each duty.... Porsche - fun car, BMW or other- commuter.... best of both worlds..

Thank you all for your valuable and candid advice. I will be holding on to the Carrera and waiting it out until I can afford to add a BMW.

Thank you all!

Mike
