island911, my description was "typical" shooting forms.
Traditional bows can be shot on an angle or vertically, same for a compound. If a compound is using sights etc,....

Ah, sights, of course. Thanks. I've never used bow sights - just down the arrow, old-school.

Well now I'm just scratching my head more. Back when I was into it, I always held (traditional re-curve) vertically and never used a release. I've shot a compound bow only a few times. Seemed to me the only difference was the hold force needed. IOW, I'm trying to understand why a compound bow must be held vertically. ...what are the physics ... balance rods?

It's our bow sights. We typically have a set pin for yardage in ten yard increments. So we need to hold those pins vertical. If not, for a typical left hand shooter, your arrows will hit far right and move left as you shoot further and further. Compound guys have to keep consistent. Trad guys shooting instinct style can do the slanted shot.

Well I think it does as I feel more relaxed and sleep better since taking up the sport.

Funny you mention this. I was on metoprolol (beta blocker) for about a month or so after an afib event this past summer. Went to the rifle range and did the best shooting I've ever done. The improvement was enough that I googled the idea and come to find out beta blockers are banned in certain sports as they may remove shakiness particularly in the hands.

I'm OCD. And I tinker. Archery may raise my blood pressure. Bow tuning is like tuning a CIS car. Part voodoo

I'm just getting into target archery at my local club...
3-D or paper targets? 3-D Archery is a blast.... it started out as hunting practice and turned into it's own sport. The walking through the woods (exercise) and seeing what the next challenge is for targets, lots of fun. Kids love it too.
