I have heard of a few folks around here that store their converter in the attic for safe keeping. I am sure it is just a rumor.

The cat on my 08 Camry is under the hood, can't get to it from the bottom, I guess that's why.

Surprising, usually they cut them off, those bolts are generally tough to get loose. Happened to my office manager, and my daughter in law.

No, close coupled cat lights off faster, it is an emissions deal.

Cali is pretty messed up on emmisions equipment, good luck if you try to use aftermarket one.

Why not go cat-less? Seriously. Phuch what CARB says. A well-tuned vehicle can meet emissions standards without one. Hell, a friend of mine met emissions standards with a HIGHLY race-modified 951 - no cat. Of course the smog-nazis didn't care that he beat the tailpipe emissions handily. Results don't matter with CARB and the smog nazis - only drone-like compliance because they know what's best for you.

Sorry to hear about this. Maybe just do what he ended up doing - get a cat shell and clamp/weld it around a pass-through straight pipe. He passed the visual AND the emissions test this way BTW.

Vehichle emission testing was stopped here in Kentucky several years ago since they concluded that 90% of cars passed and the testing fees were only a ripoff to the public. Cat theft came to an abrupt halt. Now if only we can get these dumb rednecks to start using turn signals and stop using cell phones.

I had mine stolen in Davis about three years ago off my 88' 4Runner. I'm surprised they are still stealing them since scrap prices have gone way down in recent years. Here's a picture showing my missing cat. You can really see how easy they are to chop off with a sawzall.
