Yeah, it's "designer funky"... I know it's supposed to be edgy. Just sayin.'

Hmmm...I don't know. Do you think Congress is opposed to fast, high performing cars?

It's a good question.

The new Mustang GT/Coyote is wicked fast. Winding Road says it's a 4.5 sec. 0-60 car that can top 160 mph, IIRC.

I think Congress/Obama et al are more concerned with MPG. Well, the new Mustang has that to...

Supposedly it gets 26 mpg.

None other than ALGORE stated in his "earth in the lurch" book that he considers the automobile the greatest danger to and on earth. I'm sure he's not the only politician holding this view...

Yes, the new 5.0 Coyote powerplant makes my 4.6 modular obsolete...but you know? Driving it the other day, I decided the new engine doesn't make my Mustang suddenly slower...it's still definitely faster than my old 911S is...

I think it is the best design ever. Think about it. What other car from the 60's could be built today and look like it was designed today? Not many if at all.
I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I had the coin. Even a kit car.

Politicians are the greatest danger to earth, followed by the uninformed humanity that subscribes to what politicians say.

The 5.0 Coyote is impressive that it can put down -- it's rumored -- an underrated 412 hp (said to be much more), and still return such high mileage.

Mustang trounced BMW in a race on Speed Channel last weekend. Porsche wasn't even in the running.

It's good to see Ford coming back. I like Ford.

what type of timing device was used to record this speeds? I ask because my sources are telling me that the device was way off.

You seem very hung up on the new 5.0's bro.

I would forget all about them, because YOUR Mustang is a BAD MOFO in it's own right. There is always something bigger and badder. You could by that new mustang, and still get spanked handily by new Vettes anyway.

So just enjoy what you have.

I'm starting to think that way...Took the Mustang to play pool on a good 9' table a few days back...decided that altho the 5.0 will be faster, that doesn't mean my 4.6 became slower.

The 911.

I also love the Ford GT - it's an amazing piece of machinery that embodies everything I like except one. It's raw, viceral, powerful, sexy-looking and comes with monster performance and huge upgrade potential on top of it.

But to its detriment, it was built by the UAW.

I can't say I'd have much objection to buying a used one though. There's very little to not like.

Ford really hit a home-run with this car.

The cheapest you could have bought a Ford GT would have been when it was new, and you would have gotten to pay tens of thousands of dollars over sticker for that pleasure. And they have gone up in value since then.

When was the last time a domestic automaker made a car that steadily appreciated from the get-go? Even Ferraris in this price range don't do that.

About a month ago I saw one in Georgia and I was curious as to the actual value (like I could really afford one...ha) and from about 10 minutes on the net, I didn't see anything below $120k. I will be the first to admit that there is a HUGE difference between asking and selling price, so I'm just through out that figure for the sake of arguement.

There was another Ford GT that claimed the same speed record earlier that was actually on display at Barrett Jackson's auction in West Palm. IIRC, they claimed 252 (+/-) in a standing mile. When I get a chance, I'll post a photo of it later.

Another thought.

The Bugatti Veyron burns 1.1 gallons for every mile when cruising at 250 mph.

I wonder how this does on fuel at 262.

This was the Ford GT that was on display at BJ earlier this month. By the looks of this one, I don't think the fuel mileage would be in the same galaxy as a Prius.

Probably not quite as much as the newest crazy one to fly the mile.
