Interesting eBay auction:
Original 356 Carrera engine from a Carrera Speedster, removed in early '60s and sitting in a bedroom in Indiana ever since. I assume that the car was wrecked and a total loss. If in fact the car exists, this would be worth a bloody fortune to the current owner.
Just for the fun of it, post your guess as to where the auction ended, $$-wise, before clicking on the link. ![]()

Haven't clicked yet, but I'm guessing well north of $20k. Maybe $22.5k?
EDIT: Wow, just looked at the link. Holy moly!

Could very well be shill bidding...but it's no skin off my nose. The "collector car" guys sometimes get what they deserve...

Not the same engine. The one in the 911 forum was the later version.
Silly money when you think about it but us Porsche nuts are like that. ![]() http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/529135-what-kind-engine-do-i-have.html

Wow, my guesstimate was just under half of the ending bid, and the reserve still wasn't met.

------------ At one point in the early 70s these engines were almost worthless if not running almost 100% healthy. They are very difficult to repair, assemble and tune. Not many guys left who can still put one of these together.
