Boots or shoes?
I wear "Steel Blue" shoes at work. They're an Australian company so of no good to you. But they are made in Indonesia... lol They're lot more comfortable than they used to be. Steel Blue - Safety Work Boots, Steel Toe Safety Boots Edit: Just checked their web site. They are available in the US...

Preferably shoes.

I've always worn work shoes or boots at work and I've never been able to wear steel toes. they always cut into my feet no matter what.
About 6 months ago the shoe-mobile showed up and I checked out a pair of redwing slip on loafers with steel toes. $155 but the company paid for em so who cares, right? Size 13 extra wide, they fit great and I can wear them for 12 hours a day without any discomfort and that includes a whole bunch of walking and standing on concrete. I was never much of a redwing fan before, I always figured their boots were over-priced and were too stiff to be comfortable and it took 6 months to break them in. But these shoes were different. Comfy on day one. Here's a link: Red Wing Safety Boots - 6646 Red Wing Men's - Slip-On Black |

The New Chippewa Boots Website Made in the USA Very comfortable, try them on!!!
Ariat Used to be made in Texas and Mexico very comfortable, I have a pair made in Mexico I still use from mid '90s For tennis shoes Wife likes Reebok but I would suggest New Balance (some of their shoes are made or assembled in USA) if you have wide feet.

I've tried quite a few in the last 10 years or so I've had to wear them.
My choice: MEN'S WOLVERINE DURASHOCKS EXERT OXFORD STEEL-TOE WORK SHOES

I went thru several pairs of redwings and they just never felt 'right'. I tried a few really cheap slip-on's that felt great for a month or two then just died. Next pair I might give Sammy's recommendation a chance.

I just came out of the garage and was wearing my Doc Martins. I have the snazzy "wing tip" style. Of course they are 10 years old and completely trashed. Comfy. Somewhat stylish. Protection. I think they were $80 when I got em.

Another thought on steel toe shoes, they are there to protect your toes. How much is walking and running worth to you? Comfort and safety. I've seen some brands fail!!! It is NOT pretty!
