LOST - Series Finale
So let me get this straight... During all of this season's flash sideways, the characters were already dead...and in purgatory (the original theory that came out in season 1)? But they weren't dead on the island, right... that was real. I think. I don't know. After staying up way past my bedtime (11:30) and 4.5 hours or LOST coverage... I was and still am a little lost. sigh.
and what about Walt? I think the writer's dropped the ball on that story line. I thought he was supposed to be "special."

+1 and Walt got dropped because he had a growth spurt at the wrong time and couldn't be used in the story so they wrote him out, the writers answered that question during season 2.

Never watched the show, but thought it would be cool for the S.S. Minnow to putt-putt to the island to rescue them all for the final episode.

Couldn't say a thing, but now that its over, I'm interested in your thoughts. I worked "Lost" since the pilot. Hard show to stay current on if you didn't follow it every week.

I watched nearly every episode..... I am still lost after last nights show. I guess I was hoping for a better/clearer wrap-up of things.

I followed it but I think the writers fell short on the ending that was as said foretold in the first season and the writers said it wasn't that simple, but it was. Did they just run out of things to write? I watched an interview with them and they said that they wrote the ending years ago to keep the continuity of the show but apparently didn't listen to the fans that didn't like the whole purgutory thing when it surfaced 5 years ago. I don,t know but the most important question people wanted answered was what the island was all about never got really answered just 1 was why did they have a statue of the Egyptian godess of fertility there.

I have to say that I'm thoroughly dissappointed in the finale.......
What a waste....... They should've just had hurley wake up in his institution and have it all have been a dream.....that would've made more sense......

The writers gave away the WHOLE story from the start - a story of ABC writers who were/are LOST. (you know a writer has really lost it when they break out the time travel angle, to sort story problems) Oh, well, at least the casting scouts did a good job . . . as did (clearly) the safety director.

I can't remember a show (save M.A.S.H.) that had a decent ending - Sienfield, Lost, the Sopranos all sucked azz for their finale. Can't think of any others worth even mentioning...

Good point about the statue. THey never really explained that. I'd also like to know how Julliette's body wasn't blown to smithereens when she detonated an H-Bomb with her own hands.

My guess on the statue was to establish a time reference, to show how long the island had been around and how long the battle between light and dark had been going on there.

like most people i think, my brain can only come up with vague theories about what it was all about...too many loose ends and assumptions but i guess i enjoyed it and found it thought provoking. i will miss the john locke character...that dude was an extraordinary actor and i found myself watching it just for him.
so ben was sitting outside the church because he is going to hell for murdering locke and cant go with the other people?

He wasn't going to Hell-- he just hadn't forgiven himself yet. Everyone else had, including Locke.

Why was Aaron a baby? Why did they waste my time with that stupid flash sideways at all? They could have spent that screen time all season doing a bang up job actually explaining things a bit more. I didn't want a whole "here's the deal, even your slack jawed neighbor can understand now", but there were too many important things that got left by the wayside. Little things, like why were babies dying? Were we supposed to think that Jacob's Rules included infanticide? Was there ever before 2 forces on the Island, or was Nemesis a unique event? Why did they show the Island underwater at all, when that obviously never happened (they've never shown an actually fake event). Oh, and the biggest question of all, why does Island feel the need to come in here and shuffle his feces around? Jeezus man, leave the handful of us alone in here.

Oh, and real biggy, WTF happened when child-Ben was taking into the Temple and saved? What is the final relationship between the Temple, the Catecombs, Jacob and Nemesis? That whole dynamic was ignored, and I felt it was one of the singularly important things on the Island.

Wifey and I had a bet. She figured we'd see (any or all of the following):
1. ET 2. A cast member from Star Trek 3. Crop circles. Nobody noticed any of these, right? I think I get to keep my $5. On a serious side, when the plane took off - there was the pilot, Sawyer and Miles. I figured that none of them were in the church because we never saw them die. But then, Sawyer was there... WHat??? Also - I don't remember seeing Kate die. Or Aaron, for that matter. And when did Penny kick the bucket? My interpretation of Ben staying outside the church was that he remained on the island. Alone. My thoughts, anyhow. |

One last thought... if all those people in the church were dead... including Hurley... then who was watching the island???? Maybe Mr. X and Walt since the writers just ignored those guys in the finale. Ha ha. Just kidding.

it was a bit disappointing .. If Jack was in his suit at the end it could have just been HIS dealing with letting go ... that would have made sense.
My daughter made an interesting point that Hurley said Ben WAS a good #2 and Ben said Hurley WAS as good #1 ... so is Ben finally #1 and going back to the Island ? They could have another SUPER SPECIAL finale ... right around ratings time
